Intruder Shot Dead
May 10, 2007
Just the other day I posted about the problems the bears are having this year because of the lack of food. Now the story of a bear breaking into a home to steal trash is a bit disturbing. In the house at the time was a mother with two small children;
It was on my walkway staring through the door at me,” she said.
The bear crashed through Eldridge’s back screen door, breaking a panel of glass and dragging out a bag of trash Tuesday evening.
Eldridge said the bear ignored attempts to scare it away, something that worried the mother of two young children. A neighbor shot the bear, she said. The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission collected the body.
No doubt this will continue to be a problem and the impact of the frost on typical fall mast crops may not be fully known at this time. People living in bear country need to be careful to avoid conflicts with hungry bears.
