Texas Loses Another Game Warden In the Line of Duty
June 2, 2007
Warden Ty Patterson drowned in the flood stage waters on the Paluxy River while conducting a search & rescue operation for a missing 17 year old girl. Warden Patterson and his partner Warden Danny Tuggle were thrown into the raging river when the boat they were in capsized. Warden Tuggle was airlifted to a Fort Worth hospital where he was treated for “Near Drowning” and is expected to make a full recovery. The body of the 17 year old girl was latter recovered by search & rescue. What a heartbreaking tragedy all around.
Warden Patterson is the second Texas Game Warden to give his life in service for the people of Texas in the past 3 months. Warden Justin Hurst was killed in a shoot out with a poacher back in March.
Game Wardens and Rangers serve to protect us as well as much of the outdoors we love. We sometimes focus on the stories of when a Game Warden failed to do something he should have or ones that see everyone as poachers until proven otherwise and we forget that there is often extreme danger in the job we ask them to do. I hope next time you meet one of the officers who serves us in the great outdoors that you thank him or her for the job they do.

Moose Droppings is a place that chronicles my journey, Ill explore new places and ideas Ill learn new things and Ill teach the things Ive learned to others. Join me on the adventure and hopefully it will help you in your outdoor endeavors.
