There is know way to tell for sure but I suspect that these are not hunters per say but just individuals looking for a place to dump their junk. Now during the season we find the remains of hunters meals and snacks and that burns me up too. Philip we’ve resorted to tactics like you have used but mostly in areas where people drive around gates with their 4 wheelers another dang thing that gets me riled. Wouldn’t be good for us to use those tactics in this situation because it’s also a place we use to park our trucks etc. We have thought about the possibility of erecting a game camera without a flash to see if we can catch these jerks. Thanks for all your responses.

Sadly it is hunters that do this. My Dad has found trash, including abandoned ammo boxes on his property. So not only were the hunters leaving their trash, they were hunting on his property without permission.

I'm betting that most hunters are more respectful and careful. Sadly, it only takes a few bad apples to spoil things for everyone.

I once had a piece of ground where people started driving down to a ditch on it and dropping off their junk. I got really, really mad. So, I just dumped a box of long roofing nails in the grass around the ditch. It didn't take long for people to stop dumping their junk in my ditch (a few flat tires spells out that kind of warning) The bad part, though, is that I was left with a box of roofing nails and a whole bunch of garbage to clean up and worse - I know those losers are just dumping their trash and garbage on someone elses property now.

It wasn't hunters doing this, though. It couldn't be. How could anyone that loves the outdoors dump their garbage like that?

Good post, Moose.

Lucky for you (or your readers), I posted out all my vitriol over this topic over at Kristine's blog already.

I'm with Mike on wanting to put a few warning shots into their tires when I encounter this kind of thing.

In the meantime, I keep cleaning it up, hoping to at least keep too many people from seeing the mess and blaming ALL hunters instead of a handful of inconsiderate a-holes.

I hate this kind of thing. One side of my Dad's property borders on a dirt road that goes to a small pond that is kind of a local gathering spot. Dad is always finding all sorts of trash left by the side of the road.

People can be very inconsiderate.

You hit the nail on the head about the dumping situation and it is pervasive. I would like to see more serious fines and consequences for violators, including work details to clean up the debris left by others and a public posting of names and photos of habitual offenders. Perhaps embarrassment might motivate some to take their trash to a public dump. I have a public road that goes through my property in VA where I regularly pick up empty beer cans, always of the same brand, and certainly from the same individual. I guess in the big picture of things, our law enforcement people have better things to do than chase litter bugs. I'd like to put a few "warning shots" into their tires myself. :-)
