What Kind of Camera do You Use?
August 3, 2007

This is a question I get a lot I guess because of my love of photography and all the photos I use. I have two main cameras I use for a lot of my photography work I use a Canon Digital Rebel XT that is a SLR camera that allows me to exchange lenses and do some other things to get many of the shots I get. I have a few lenses I use for it 18-55 that is for shots where I need a wide angle or not much magnification. I also have a 100-300 lens which is primarily what I take a lot of my wildlife shots with and anything that I need to magnify. Although the cost of this camera has come down it’s a significant investment so I rarely take it with me hunting.
I have a small point and shoot digital Fuji camera that does a great job. It’s the third one I’ve owned; dropping one while attempting to photograph some Mule Deer Bucks and the second one fell out of my pocket and to the bottom of the pond while waterfowl hunting. That is why I carry them while hunting even though it hurts to break one it’s not as painful if it was the nice Cannon.
I get some great photos well people tell me that the truth of the matter there is few that I’m ever really satisfied with. I shoot a lot like anything the more you do it the better you’ll get. I think the most important thing is to really look through the lens and see what it is your photographing. Our eyes see so much more that you need to concentrate on what the view finder is showing you will be in the photo. I have a knack for it something my Dad had also did I learn it from watching him or what I can’t tell ya.
Look at things from different angles and heights. Little things can make a good photo even better so look for them.
I know you don’t need an expensive camera to get great photos so just practice. When I get back if anyone has any questions about taking photos I’ll try to answer them for you.

Moose Droppings is a place that chronicles my journey, I’ll explore new places and ideas I’ll learn new things and I’ll teach the things I’ve learned to others. Join me on the adventure and hopefully it will help you in your outdoor endeavors.
