When is Enough Enough?

Have you heard the newest thing for primitive weapons season this year? A muzzleloader with an electronic ignition. No more flint, no more primer caps just make sure you got plenty of batteries on hand. CVA has introduced the Electra that I’m sure will take the hunting world by storm. Geez I hope not.
Here’s what CVA says about this new muzzleloader;
Our new Electra™ rifles are like no other muzzleloaders on earth, featuring the patent pending ARC™ Electronic Ignition. The ARC™ Electronic Ignition is completely sealed from the elements – there’s not even a flash-hole. No parts other than the barrel have to be cleaned of fouling – ever! Ignition is absolutely instantaneous. The trigger pull is incredibly clean – because the “trigger” is really an electronic switch. And since there is no pressure explosion, as there is with primer ignitions, there is no accuracy robbing displacement of the charge – allowing full and consistent burn of the powder charge at the bottom of the barrel. One 9-volt battery will reliably fire the rifle at least 500 times, and the battery will last 600 hours (25 days) – and that’s if it is left turned on! The Electra is the ultimate muzzleloader in ease-of-use, rapid reloading, ease-of-cleaning and never-fail reliability. And all Electras are equipped with a premium Bergara Barrel – for unmatched accuracy.
As one who is pretty open to different methods and styles and being inclusive more then exclusive for the benefit of the sport I kind of scratch my head on this one. Is there a line where the technology pushes it over the edge? Inlines, scopes, 209 primers I have no problem with but this new one I’m still trying to figure it out and how it fits in. I guess if someone figures a way for us to drop a rifle cartridge down the barrel and into the chamber will that be a muzzleloader too?
I don’t know about anyone else but I don’t for see myself running out to pick one of these up. Be kind of like showing up at the go cart track with an Indy car looking to race.

Moose Droppings is a place that chronicles my journey, Ill explore new places and ideas Ill learn new things and Ill teach the things Ive learned to others. Join me on the adventure and hopefully it will help you in your outdoor endeavors.
