Tragedies Afield…. Be careful Out There!!
I was reading on Tails & Trails Blog today about a horrible hunting accident where a Father & Son squirrel hunting a few years back and the Dad stepped in front of his son’s gun as he discharged it. The Dad was shot in the head but did survive however when he came to after being shot he discovered his 16 year old son’s lifeless body next to his. The son took his own life after thinking he had killed his Dad. Situations like this are just plain horrible and preventable.
We all need to be mindful while hunting and or shooting because to let our guard down for a moment and tragedy can strike. Teach those no matter their age proper gun handling skills while afield. Never accept sloppy or dangerous gun handling from anyone around you, your safety depends on you.
Take a hunter safety class, I took one a number of years ago but I was an adult and although I knew a lot I still learned a few things. Encourage your kids to take the class and heck sit in there with them. Your State Wildlife Department can tell you where the next class is.
Hunting and shooting is still one of the safest sports out there but we can’t let our guard down for a minute. Be Safe

I read this story too, and thought it was awful. I’m a big advocate of hunting safety classes and am going to take one myself in September. You can never be too safe or too careful.

AMEN. We’ve got to set the example in being careful and safe and then continually re-inforce it with our kids AND newbie adult hunters.
