Additional Information on the Death of Josh Leger Avery Pro Staff
October 12, 2007
Update on Josh Leger’s tragic death. I found this posting on the Avery message board and it appears to be authentic;
He was out hunting with friends and clients and someone thought his spread of snow geese was an actual flock that had landed. The guy pulled over and crawled his way into the field and took one shot with a .22 rifle. Hitting Josh right above the eye. His partner heard the whistling of a flying bullet and then a tiny impact, asked Josh if he had heard. When no answer came, he turned around and realise Josh had been hit. The rest of the story is irrelevant, Josh is dead.
Josh was a good friend of mine and a great hunter. Not only was he good at hunting itself, but he was a great communicator and a great promoter of waterfowl hunting. We have lost a great pionneer of waterfowl hunting here in Quebec and he will be missed.
This is a horrible tragic turn of events and a slob has taken a life. Stories like this make my blood boil and I can’t believe how senseless an act this was and it cost a man his life. All because someone wanted to cheat to kill a snow goose. Wow that don’t make much sense at all.
Here is a link to the only news account I can find on this however I can’t speak French. The video does show you the field they were hunting in and I can’t understand how someone can’t tell these are decoys. I’ll continue to follow this story and update as more information comes out. Our thoughts and prayers are with Josh’s family and friends.
