Coco Crisp’s Great Grandmother in Carolina Pulling for the Sox

    Me in My Sox hat

Red Sox Nation is alive and well in the Carolina’s seems I see less and less Yankee hats and more and more Sox hats around here. According to a story in the Boston Globe Coco’s Great Grandmother lives in Tarboro NC not far from Raleigh. 94 year old Maude Porter turned down the opportunity to watch her great grandson tonight at Fenway Park opting to watch from the comfort of her home. Giving the temperatures in Boston at game time I think she made the right decision. But don’t think she’ll not be cheering for the Sox,

She says he prefers to watch her great-grandson in the comfort of her home.
She says she talks to him when he comes to bat “just like he could hear me.” She even calls Crisp by his real name — Covelli.
“I say, ‘Come on Covelli. Hit one for Grandma. Grandma is watching you. Do yourself proud boy. Eat that apple up.’ I got all sort of things that I tell him,” she said.

Granny cheers for other teammates of her great grandson as well,

“I get excited when I see them,” she said. “The last time they played I was sitting right here. I told (Ortiz), ‘Come on, hit it in the grandstand.’ And he did. When Manny came up, I said ‘back-to-back daddy.’ I love the Red Sox. I love Covelli.”

Well keep it up Granny because so far your cheering is working with the Red Sox having a good lead going into the 7th.

I know this is somewhat a departure from the usual topics I cover out here but when the Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots, or even the Celtics are playing I might lay down my gun or fishing rod long enough to take in a game.
