Are There Coyotes in Florida?

Photo I took of a Coyote in Yellowstone National Park additional coyote shots at my wildlife photo blog.
I received this question from Caitlin this evening on one of my older posts about coyotes in North Carolina.
ok, i live in largo, florida too, i was driving right past the giant cemetery by indian rocks road and i swear i almost hit a coyote, it was NO dog. am i crazy or is this actually possible? coyotes? here?

Yes the coyote has found its way into Florida as well so I’m sure you’re not seeing things. It may not be as common place as it is here in North Carolina but a coyote is a master at adapting and it will find Florida to it’s liking I’m sure. I also know Tom and if he has heard and/ or seen them you can be certain they are there.
