DuPont State Forest Bear Hunt Canceled

October 18, 2007

In a story this past summer I shared that bears and hogs have become a nuisance at DuPont State Forest and the surrounding areas. The planned hunt will have to wait at least another year while rules get changed to allow the hand.
North Carolina Wildlife Commission did not have the authority to authorize the use of dogs on the State Forest.

“This comes as the result of our agency’s failure to clearly communicate the rules regarding the use of dogs for this hunt,” said Lisa Hocutt, the section chief for customer support services of the Wildlife Resources Commission. “Currently, the North Carolina Administrative Code does not give the Commission the authority to allow the use of dogs when bear hunting on this game land. The Commission is working to address this through the rule-making process for the upcoming season.”

Refunds will be issued to all applicants because of the hunt cancellation.
