Breaking News Out of Georgia may Impact the Pisgah NF Murder Case

    Jan 07, 2008 @ 02:53 pm by Moose

A suspect arrested in the disappearance and possible homicide of Meredith Emerson a young female hiker, has similarities to the Bryant case we have been following here in NC. Irene & Jon Bryant disappeared while hiking in Pisgah National Forest. Week’s latter searchers found the bludgeoned body of Irene Bryant but no sign of Jon. Someone used the Bryant’s ATM card in Tennessee to withdraw $300 from their bank account but the video footage was not enough at the time to identify the user of the atm card.

That Tennessee bank Atm is only about an hour from the area where the Georgia hiker was last seen.

Gary Michael Hilton, 61, faces a charge of kidnapping with bodily injury in the disappearance of 24-year-old Meredith Emerson. Hilton is being held in the Union County, Ga., jail.
Evans has been missing since New Year’s Day, when she went hiking on Blood Mountain in Vogel State Park in north Georgia.

There is enough similarities between the two cases that Georgia and North Carolina officials will meet today to compare notes to see if the cases are at all linked.

I’ll update as more information becomes available.
