Happy St Patrick’s Day
March 17, 2008
As a kid growing up in Boston St Patrick’s Day was always a big holiday but in my family it seemed to be even bigger. Today I’ve thought back on those days and how simpler life was in those days. I won’t necessarily say they were better days but on St Patrick’s Day I got to look back. Growing up in a large family with not many worldly possessions the time and memories with family are now priceless to me.
In our home on St Patrick’s Day we hoped the leprechaun would stop by with his green cow and leave us some green milk for breakfast. We always knew he had stopped by because often his tell tale footprints were left on the butter. My mother always made an Irish Bread that we would have with our green milk. If I was in Maine today I’d of stopped by Mom’s and look under the cake tin to see if she had a Irish Bread waiting for me. Now days I skip the green milk and drink a cup of black coffee with it. I made some Irish Bread this weekend, of course it’s not as good as Mom’s, so I could have some with my morning coffee and relive some childhood memories.
I hope everyone had a great St Patrick’s Day and remember Today everyone is Irish
