Animal Rights Group Maybe Responsible For Turning Deadly Cobras loose in Onslow County NC
On the heels of the possible King Cobra sighting in Cumberland County reports are now coming out of Onslow County that NC Wildlife officials have been called in to search for two Monocled cobra.
Officials say the two Monocled Cobras on the loose in Onslow County may have been dumped there by an animal rights group pushing for a ban on exotic animals.
The two cobras are believed to be near Mill Farms Road off Piney Green Road in Onslow County.
Officials say they found a flyer indicating someone lost the two cobras. They believe the snakes were placed there by the group Animal Protection Institute. The group wants to make it illegal for people to own exotic animals and uses such tactics to raise awareness.
Officials warn these snakes can be deadly with one bite. They urge you to stay away if you see these snakes and immediately call authorities.

Animal Protection Institute is supporting bills in North Carolina to have the state step in and begin regulating the private ownership of exotic animals. What a better tactic then to cause a panic among the public by turning some of these snakes loose. If a group or an individual purposely turned poisonous snakes loose I believe this should be considered a terrorist attack. Even if they didn’t turn them loose but falsely reported they did to make a point that should still be a terrorist attack in my book. No different then these other animal wacko groups burning buildings and other such criminal activities to further their loony ideas. Hopefully know one gets hurt and don’t worry I’ll continue to follow this story and bring you the latest.

[...] Moose wrote about a couple of cobras that have been spotted in his state and the possibility they were released as part of an animal activist group wishing to push a ban on exotic animals. How exactly does that help? To raise awareness?!? Really? And how aware will folks be when someone gets bit and dies? [...]

Something similar happened in the Tampa area two years ago. Restrict-
ing ownership gave to some heated discussions. Those who owned snakes, pitted, again, against those who thought they shouldn’t own them
It all seems so ridiculous. As if no one is capable? of taking care of animals? Of course there’s always the guy that breaks the rules, but given
enough rope…… My point is; this is a person’s livelyhood. I hate seeing
honest people get ram-roded for “no good cause”.
The follow-up will be interesting.

Born Free USA/ Animal Protection Institute (API) is very upset that after spending huge sums of money to lobby for their model legislative proposal banning many exotic animals, the State of NC has rejected their extreme Animal Rights based agenda in favor of good science and a public safety based legislative proposal regarding reptiles. State agency staffers, the NC Association of Reptile Keepers (NCARK) and Partners in Amphibian & Reptile Conservation (NCPARC) created a comprehensive proposal for the regulation of reptiles that was adopted by a Joint Legislative Study Committee and recommended for introduction in the 2009 NC Legislative session. This strict regulation of reptiles includes caging standards, safety protocols and criminal prosecution for violators. It would be a felony to release a reptile named in this statute. Even though this legislation is still pending, if API as reported has released cobras in NC, they could possibly be prosecuted under the Animal Enterprises Terrorism Act for attempting to influence legislation through fear and coercion. It is my belief that API did NOT release any cobras, but was behind the release of fliers designed to instill panic and hysteria in the public in order to garner more support for their proposals. Now it seems every snake sighted in NC is a cobra… and there are two native species to NC that mimic cobra behavior. There has been mysterious dumping incidents in every state API is active. Hopefully now that their tactics have been exposed by the media these reprehensible tactics will backfire.
