Manny Hits 500 and I Was There
Well as a die hard Red Sox fan exiled to the south there is not much opportunity for me to see the Sox play. This past weekend they were playing in Baltimore and little did I know when I bought tickets this spring that I was going to see history made. For those of you who may not follow Baseball very closely this past Saturday Manny Ramirez made history when he became only the 24th player in history to hit 500 home runs.
Camden Yards, the home of the Orioles, is a spectacular ball field. There really isn’t a bad seat in the house. The stadium is only yards from where baseball great Babe Ruth was born and a fitting location for history to be made once again.
BALTIMORE—Manny Ramirez connected for career homer No. 500 on Saturday night, hitting a drive off Baltimore Orioles right-hander Chad Bradford to become the 24th major leaguer to reach the milestone.
Ramirez drove the first pitch into the seats in right-center in the seventh inning. The Red Sox star watched the flight of the ball, then took off around the bases.
“As soon as I hit it, I knew it was gone,” Ramirez said. “So I was happy to move on.”
Here are some of the photos I took this weekend. I used my point and shoot rather then the SLR so the quality is not as good on some especially my photo from my seat of Manny’s 500 homerun.
My wife at Camden Yards
Shot of fans leaving the park. Seems to be more Red Sox and Celtic shirts then Baltimore fans.
Sign outside a church near Camden Yards, the Yankee’s had been in town the early part of the week.
Well now that I’m back in town I’ll get back to more traditional outdoor type stories.

HA - that sign made me laugh pretty good! Being a huge baseball fan myself, and more specifically, a Mariner fan - there has been a lot to enjoy about this season, but there has been a lot of torment, too. I can’t believe a team (my beloved M’s) could fall this far from the mid nineties and early 2000s - to where they are now. Congrats to Manny - I love watching this guy play as he obviously has just a ton of fun playing. fans say what they want about the guy, but I love a guy who makes a leaping catch near the wall, high fives a fan, turns around and doubles a runner off first. That’s having fun!
Now that he’s got 500, Manny can go back to being Manny!
