Skinny Moose Media Welcomes Brad to Southern Adventures

by Steve Remington

February 28, 2007

Brad Faircloth from North Carolina has decided to join Skinny Moose Media and blog at Southern Adventures. Brad had known Moose from Moose Droppings, and Brad decided he was interested in opening up a new blog devoted to not only his adventures, but to keep up on newsworthy events and happenings all across the South. Make sure to head over to his new blog and give him a warm welcome. Below is a little bit about Brad…

My name is Brad Faircloth and I live in Alamance County, North Carolina. I was introduced to the outdoors by my grandpa in Georgia. I took up fishing at an early age with him along the Chattahoochee River, at around age 9 I was given my first gun and started chasing rabbits and squirrels with my dad. Just a year or so later I moved on to Whitetail Deer and eventually feral hogs. I enjoy my deer hunting and wouldn’t miss the season for anything, but, the elusive feral hogs that inhabit the swamps of the southeast really have a hold on me. Ive hunted them in almost every southern state and met some really great people and made some even better friends along the way. I hope to continue this trend for as long as I can. I’d like to thank you for stopping by and checking out my blog, and if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.

Welcome Back Norm

by Steve Remington

February 26, 2007

Skinny Moose Media has missed one of our first bloggers, Norm Sargent who had been blogging over at Outdoors with Norm. Then it happened… his computer crashed and he had to spend some time offline. Well we are happy to announce that Norm is back…. and is pumped to be blogging again. So let’s welcome him back. It has been since Thanksgiving

For those who were not here when Norm was part of Skinny Moose, here is a little picture and bio of Norm:

Hello, my name is Norman Sargent. My goal for this site is a chance for us to come and learn from each other. A place to have fun, share ideas, and keep everyone informed of things happening in our region. I also will be doing a daily devotional. This will be a non denominational approach. This is meant to encourage fellow sportsmen through a short word from the Bible and how this might relate to activities each of us may enjoy.

I grew up in the “outdoors” of Maine. I have lived here all my life except for seven years I spent in Colorado. I have a tremendous wife who “puts up” with my outdoor adventures. Other than my wife I have a seventeen year old step son, fourteen year old step daughter and a twenty month old son. Being a dad is the most exciting adventure I have experienced.

I hope that everyone has a good time while checking out our site. I look forward to learning from everyone here. If you ever have comments or questions do not hesitate to contact me at outdoorswithnorm@gmail.com.

by Steve Remington

February 20, 2007

We are happy to announce Skinny Moose Media’s newest expansion of our Network. We are proud to open our Network up to the public for video sharing. What is video sharing?

Are you familiar with YouTube? Well it is the same thing, except we only allow outdoorsy type videos such as hunting, fishing, shooting, camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, skiing, boarding, riding, and more. It is absolutely free!!

Just head over and register a free account and begin uploading videos from your computer. Each video has its own link so that you can share them with others and direct them back to your video.

Another great feature is if you have a blog you can take a simple line of code and copy it into your blog and have the video actually play right there on your site. It is so simple and fun, and an easy way to show off your cool video clips.

You can create and join groups and keep your videos private for only group members to see. You can make friends, leave comments on other blogs, and even rate them.

Sounds like a good time… and it is all free. So come join our video community and start uploading and watching outdoor videos right here online at Skinny Moose Media.

Brent Reece From Aroostook County, Maine Joins Skinny Moose Media

by Steve Remington

February 14, 2007

Skinny Moose Media just added a new blogger to the Network. Brent Reece is from Aroostook County Maine and is now blogging at Aroostook Flyers and Tyers. Make sure to go check it out. I am sure you can learn a thing or two about tying flies and more… Below is his bio:

brent_s_head.JPGBrent Reece is a dedicated father of four and a husband, as well as a dedicated fisherman and selfless promoter of outdoor activities.

Over the previous 46 years of his life, Brent has traveled and fished all over Maine and elsewhere. He has also worked in the construction industry and in the IT field in recent years. His broad based knowledge of the world we live in and in the fishing world as a whole gives him a unique perspective on all things Maine.

Prior to establishing his current career at Walmart he was a self employed businessman; and knows most everyone in the Houlton area. Either through one of his businesses or through his work for Irving Oil and or for J.S. Walker Marketing, where he was employed as a manager in both cases. Active in his local Church he was co-founder of a Chapter of the National Christian Organiztion CSF, Christian Sportsman’s Fellowship.

Brent Reece offers a vast love of Maine and of fly fishing. It is in this capacity he serves as a Founder of the newest chapter of Trout Unlimited in Maine to watch over the resources and ecology of our area.

Brent Reece enthusiastically reaches out to those who share his love of the outdoors and encourages their greater involvement through clubs and organizations, giving a voice to the faceless masses who hunt and fish in Maine. But he never hesitates to get personally involved. It is his intention to challenge each of you as anglers to do better and give more to all that you love. In this way we can all build a stronger longer lived heritage and know it will live on beyond us all.

As “Aroostookbasser” on the Maine Hunting and Fishing Today forums he has made a great effort to incite conversations about all things Maine and Outdoors. Although at times he has provoked the wrath of some, he for the most part has been able to draw out of the average viewer the truth of their convictions.

Now here in his Blog you have the chance to discuss all things fly with him at your pace. Need to know a tie or how to spin a dubbing loop? He will share his knowledge with you. At the same time guests will also add their knowledge to your requests. But remember just as this is his place to speak so it is yours………..we await your request.

To contact Bent Reece you can post a comment here, or email: aroostokbasser@yahoo.com, or go to http://mainefishingtoday.com and post a question for him in the forum.

Phillip Loughlin Joins Skinny Moose Media at The Hog Blog

by Steve Remington

February 7, 2007

Skinny Moose Media is happy to announce our newest blog. Phillip Loughlin is from California and is an avid hog hunter. You will be able to find him at The Hog Blog.

Hi all. I’m Phillip Loughlin. It’s hard to define my origins, since I was born in New York City (please, hold the picante sauce commercials) to a couple of North Carolina natives. Three months later, I was in North Carolina, then Virginia, then North Carolina again, and then San Juan, Puerto Rico, then back to North Carolina where I finally finished out my “formative years”! But since my family hails from North Carolina , that’s the place I call home. But just to twist it all around a little bit more, I’m now residing and hunting in California .

It was in North Carolina that I was introduced to, and fell in love with, hunting. Like a lot of folks did, I started out on squirrels and doves, and then moved to deer and waterfowl. By the time I was 13 or so, I had experienced almost every type of hunting southeastern NC had to offer and I was totally hooked on all of it. I soon became a fairly hardcore deer hunter, and with NC’s liberal seasons and limits, it kept me pretty busy. The hog bug didn’t bite me though until I moved to California in the late 90’s. While there is all kinds of great hunting in this state, hog hunting grabbed me by the trigger finger right away. No limit, no season, and a hog population that’s booming out of control… sounded like opportunity to me! Now, as we’re wrapping up the first decade of the new millennium, the hog fever is still just as deeply rooted as it ever was. I still love to deer hunt, and have recently started hunting elk as well. When the urge strikes me, I’ll chase waterfowl and upland birds too. Any time spent in the field with gun in hand is good time, regardless of the quarry.

Outside of hunting, I’ve been involved in the Internet for a pretty long time, and have enjoyed using the power of the Web to promote hunting and the outdoors through participation in online forums, and as Editor of an online magazine, the Jesse’s Hunting and Outdoors Journal. I stepped away from a fairly active freelance writing life to enter the corporate world of training design and technical writing, and finally have the time to return to writing about the outdoors and my favorite sport once again. I hope that this blog will let me share my love of this sport with the readers, and that we can generate some dialogue as well.

Now, let’s go get some hogs!

Rick Passek is The Fledgling FlyFisher

by Steve Remington

February 2, 2007

Skinny Moose Media would like to announce our newest blogger from BC, Canada. He will be blogging at The Fledgling FlyFisher

Here is Passek’s bio:

rick.jpgMy name is Rick Passek, I have been fishing for as long as I can remember. My Father was a crazy fisherman for as long as I have been around, and watching him Fly Fish is what sparked my interest. I was born in Calgary Alberta in 1969, and moved to Surrey BC in 1978. I have lived here in Surrey ever since, and have grown up once again learning from my father. Once we moved here from Calgary my Father stopped Flyfishing and took up ocean fishing. I enjoyed this, but found it to be more luck than skill. As I got older I got married and had 1 son, and moved my new family to Vernon BC. This is when my interest in Fly Fishing took off. I took classes and fished, fished, fished and became almost obsessed. I have in the mean time taken in every piece of knowledge I could and have benefited from this. I have just recently started teaching my own Fly Fishing Classes as well as offering guided trips for trout, Salmon, and sturgeon through my company Rp3 Fishing Adventures. I am a member of the FFF (Federation of Fly Fishers) in the USA and a member of the BCFFF in Canada. I have also just completed writing my first book due out in mid March. The book is a basic guide for the beginner fly fisher. The name of the book is The Fledgling Flyfisher ( The “Reel” facts on Flyfishing). I have written the book for the everyday person, I tried to not get to technical and that is how I will be writing my blog. I hope this gives you some insight into myself and I just hope that what I write will get some of the beginners to love and respect this sport as much as I do.

Tight Lines & Fun Times

Rick Passek
