Skinny Moose Radio Blog Officially Launches

by Steve Remington

August 31, 2007

Skinny Moose Media’s newest project is the opening of our Online Radio Station. We have been playing mostly Country and Classic music and gave people a sneak peak and link to go listen while we set up some shows. We have a few shows already set up and more on the way. We think it is time to officially launch the new blog.

You can visit the new blog here. We also will be providing a schedule of shows that will air each week. We still have some surprises coming up that have yet to hit the blog. We hope to sculpt our programming to fit the ears of our listeners.

Today, we will be airing the first of a weekly show. At 1pm (EST) the Moose Droppings Show will broadcast. Today’s show is roughly 20 minute long. Dan of Moose Droppings has announced it on his blog.

So what is the show exactly? Here is what Dan has provided for insight.

This show will be an extension of the blog Moose Droppings so each week I’ll bring you items of interest from the great outdoors. Topics we will cover will include hunting techniques, hopefully some actual in the field hunts as well as interviews with interesting people. I will include other topics of interest including photography, fishing, and travel. So join me for an informative look at the wild world around me.

On Tuesdays we will be airing an hour show called the Michael Zavala Show. This show is unrelated to the outdoors in anyway. 3 guys sit around and talk about movies, famous people, current events, and basic non-sense.

Every Wednesday we will play Joe Perham’s CD “The Guide to Hunting and Fishing in Maine.” Joe Perham is a Maine Humorist and public speaker.

We also have a few things coming to Skinny Moose Radio. Bryan from deerPhD will be broadcasting random hunting tips. There are some other Skinny Moose bloggers who are interested in doing shows and we are in the early stages of making it happen. So check out our new Skinny Moose Radio Blog and make sure to check in often to see any new shows.

If you are interested in doing a show please contact us.

Spencer Interviews Rick Bradshaw

by Steve Remington

August 31, 2007

Spencer Spellman of the Skinny Moose Media golf blog Fore, was able to get an interview with Rick Bradshaw of the world famous Jim Dent and Rick Bradshaw School of Golf in Florida.

Bradshaw is in the middle in the following photo. Enjoy the interview…

Rick Bradshaw and Jim Dent

1-Rick, why did you decided to get into teaching golf rather than playing professionally?

In 1979 I had a chance to open a computerized high tech golf school in West Chester County N.Y. I felt this was an opportunity to truly study and research the golf swing to not only help golfers but give myself the understanding of the golf swing that might propel me into playing the tour. My plan kind of back fired on me as I became very successful at teaching the golf swing to all level golfers and my lesson book filled to the extent of 70 lessons a week. The more people I helped and the notoriety I achieved through television, writing articles and pouring my full emotions into teaching and discovering the true secrets to an efficient and effective golf swing, the less time I had to compete and practice. Becoming a tour professional requires great commitment almost selfish desire to be the best at every aspect of golf. I chose through time to become the best I could be at communicating and teaching the fundamentals and techniques of the golf swing.

2-What’s the allure to you of teaching golf?

The allure of teaching golf is to get an individual to swing a golf club with virtually no effort yet strike the ball with great club head velocity. Teaching someone to achieve and apply the secrets I have discovered about learning the golf swing in virtually one lesson gives me a feeling of an artist creating a sculpture or magician performing a unbelievable trick.

3-What’s a normal day for you? Do you teach golf for a couple hours and then hit the links for the rest of the day?

A normal day for me is teaching golf from 9 am until dark with no lunch, 6 days a week for the last 20 years.

4-How is going to the Jim Dent and Rick Bradshaw School of Golf different from going to your local driving range and getting lessons?

Going to the Jim Dent/Rick Bradshaw School of Golf guarantees you learning the true secrets to effortless power in the golf swing. Participants will receive instruction from Rick Bradshaw, 2 time section PGA Teacher of the Year, first hand not assistants. The true physics and forces responsible for the club head swinging into the ball striking it square in the center of the club face with tremendous velocity will be revealed. Few golf schools or teachers understand the forces involved in the golf swing. The fact that I drive the ball over 300 yards with only one hand on the club is proof of how to create great club head velocity with minimal effort or work being performed. Examine laws of circular motion and apply them to the golf swing and body and the swing very easy to understand and perform.

5-What’s involved in the process of someone enrolling at your school of golf?

Visit my web site at Tourexperience.com and send me an email. I am more than happy to speak with people who want to learn the golf swing.

6- What is the most challenging aspect of golf?

Probably keeping it simple. Knowing the important things to focus on and eliminate the many unimportant thoughts. Once you understand the true secrets to achieving the swing you can begin to perfect. Getting the correct information on how the swing works and is learned is paramount to success. Skill, strength, and talent are very much secondary. Anyone can definitely be successful at golf.

7- What advice would you give to people who are just getting started in golf?

Please study laws of circular motion, read Percy Boomers’ golf Book “On Learning Golf’. Find a teacher that keeps it simple, fun, and cares about your success.

8-Could you comment on your thoughts of the recent headlines of steroids being in professional golf?

The interesting thing about the golf swing is to be successful you need lightness and quickness to transmit velocity from the body to the golf club, not big muscles or bulk. Slight of hand and dexterity is a plus and feel of the club head as well. I don’t see any benefit that steroids could give to a professional golfer. Power is generated through a pivot, not a forced hitting motion. Like a figure skater performing a pirouette. The great golfers in the past have lengthy and quick muscles. Steroids if used by golf professionals could prove more of a detriment than advantage.

Lowcountry Hunting Comes to Skinny Moose Media

by Steve Remington

August 30, 2007

Skinny Moose Media has a strong focus in hunting and hunting blogs seem to make up a large majority of the Network. We have a new blog that has been added to the Network. Jeff lives in South Carolina and hunts the Lowcountry. Jeff is also a professional photographer.

You can visit Jeff at his blog at Lowcountry Hunting.

Jeff Hunt

I am professional photographer (www.jeffhuntphotography.com) who lives to hunt the Lowcountry of South Carolina. My wife, Amy, and I live here with our two boys where I also manage Cubbedge Hill Plantation, a trophy deer club near the Savannah River.

I have been blogging about our hunting club’s successes for two years now on www.cubbedgehill.com, our plantation’s website that I built. However the more I did it, and the more I researched blogging, the more interested I became to do it bigger and better - So I just started on wordpress.

I intend to continue my blogging about our club’s daily hunting success as well as all Quality Deer Management work done to create a truly amazing Lowcountry hunting plantation. However I also plan to cover as much lowcountry hunting news as possible as well as getting hunting reports from other clubs, doing interviews with knowledgeable local hunters and providing hunting tips crafted for our area. In addition, I hope to reach out to the other outdoor bloggers so that I too can contribute to the preservation and documentation of our real national pastime.

Network Update: A Look Ahead

by Steve Remington

August 28, 2007

Someone had suggested to me that I should post here at the blog every once in a while letting people know what the near future looks like for the Network. They told me I should post more often some of the things we are doing here and a sneak peak on some new blogs. So that is what I will do maybe on a weekly basis.

First and foremost, we have a whole slew of new bloggers joining the Network. I would say maybe a half dozen or more new blogs will be coming to Skinny Moose in the next week or two. Here is a look at what types of blogs to expect:

1) Canoing/Rafting blog
2) Another look inside Nascar
3) A bowhunter out of North Carolina
4) Hunting blog
5) Travel/Lodging blog

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

So what are some other things we are working on here at the Network? We are still in the process of gathering programming for our new Radio station. It has been a lot of fun and a lot more behind the scenes set up and organizing than I had originally expected. For the last week I have spent a lot of time getting things set up. You can still click on the radio button and listen to music. We will begin posting program schedules probably by next week so you will all get an idea what you will expect to hear. You may actually catch us testing out some programs this week but there will be no set times.

So how will we let you all know about programs on the Radio? Skinny Moose Media will be creating a separate blog in the near future where we will list out shows, dates, and times. We will provide you a short description of what the show will be like and when you can login and listen.

So what types of programming do we have lined up? Though it isn’t a complete secret I still won’t get too detailed but we have a couple guys out of Texas who will be doing a fishing show. This is actually at the very early stages so it could be another couple weeks before we can begin airing anything.

There will be a weekly hunting tip done by one of our bloggers in the Network. We are still looking for someone to provide daily news. This is a larger commitment so it may take some time before we can get news.

We also have a couple other shows in the making which would involve mostly hunting, fair chase issues, interviews, and ethical hunting topics.

If you are interested in providing a show, or content for Skinny Moose Radio please contact us soon so we can look over your proposal.

Back to the Future

by Steve Remington

August 27, 2007

Back to the FutureOne of the best things about blogging is taking real life situations and things you do in the real world and then conjure up a post. I try to keep all this to myself as not to scare away friends and family but it’s fun to come up with blog post ideas in the middle of eating dinner or watching a movie.

I have trained myself (maybe by accident) to always make that “real life/blog post” connection. Could it be a sickness? I guess that is debatable.

But here is a bloggy question I would like to ask my audience. Now this is something I decided I wanted to ask people while watching Back to the Future. I assume I don’t have to tell people what that movie is, but my brother in-law got us the trilogy for the family. It is a classic.. or will be a classic, depending on where you are on the space-time continuum. I used to watch those movies back when I was a kid and my kids seem to like it.

So let’s relate time travel to blogging. If you could go into the future 30 years. Now remember that blogging really hasn’t been around for more than a few years. The Internet has only been around for about a decade. So let’s take the year 2007 and go ahead into the future another 30 years to 2037. Now for entertainment purposes what do you see? Let’s assume blogging is still around and you log on to your computer or laptop, or your personal computer device… whatever you use to read the Internet. What do you think blogging will be like in the future?

Now let’s say you were young (a kid) in 2037 and were able to go back in time 30 years to the present year of 2007. What are some of the things that seem normal to us currently that you think may be outdated and would seem as “old fashion” to the time traveler?

Any ideas? Think about how things were 30 years ago and how so much has changed. What was it like in 1977? Internet wasn’t even around then. Cell phones weren’t around. So think about how much has really changed in 30 years to help you think up what it might be like 30 years from now and what types of things today may not be around… Now think in the sense of blogging.

Any ideas?

Skinny Moose Radio is Now Here

by Steve Remington

August 23, 2007

RadioWe are still in the beginning stages of developing Skinny Moose Radio. But we have now opened up the airwaves for people to listen in and give us feedback.

Some things we are looking for:

1) More programming - We will always be looking for programming. We have a few shows but it is amazing the amount of room we have. If you would like to provide a weekly or daily hunting or fishing show or tip, please contact us directly.

2) Feedback - We are looking for feedback on what types of shows you would like to listen to. Also we have music in between shows. Currently we have Rock and Country. If you have favorite artists or songs please let us know. The radio is for you… so please let us know.

3) Presence - If you don’t necessarily have a show, but want to make a presence on our broadcast we offer imaging at a low cost. We can create 20 second promos in your name. This is also good for the small business as the prices are completely affordable and we can get your name out there.

So listen in. How? In the upper right corner of the blog you will see a Radio Button. Click on that and your default player should open. Give it time to buffer and it will listen in live….

The other option is to download our toolbar here. In the toolbar there is a radio player. Simply click on that and it should drop down and provide some radio stations to listen to. Click on Skinny Moose Radio.

If you already have the toolbar installed you can choose to update the toolbar. Or re-install the toolbar real quick to see the new radio station listing.

We will also be announcing programming here at the blog so you will have an idea what types of shows will be playing and when.

So Tune in and enjoy!!!

deerPhD New to Skinny Moose Media

by Steve Remington

August 20, 2007

Bryan Karazsia of Ohio has joined the Skinny Moose Media Network with his new blog deerPhD. Bryan will be blogging about hunting and has some interviews lined up that you may find interesting. So what does deerPhd really mean? Bryan explains here.

So stop by and welcome him to the Network. The following is a pic and bio…

Bryan

Bryan is an outdoor enthusiast and freelance outdoor writer/speaker. He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology.

Mission: To 1) offer a positive portrayal of the outdoors and outdoor pursuits, 2) be part of a growing community of hunters who are good news to the world. In fulfilling this mission, I want to be a part of a movement that takes people away from “Oh, you hunt, that’s cruel” and closer to “Oh, you hunt, thanks for protecting our lands and animals”.
