Using Text Link Ads As a Revenue Generator
February 26, 2008
I get lots of people who ask me how the Skinny Moose Media Network makes its money. The trick I have learned over time is not to put all your eggs in one basket. Also don’t settle. In other words, just because one revenue stream is bringing you a little cash, don’t assume that is the only thing for you. You should be constantly pushing the boundaries and finding out which methods are right for you.
At some point I will breakdown for everyone what income streams we choose, which ones bring us the most money, and actually some new income streams we are looking into now.
Right now I would like to talk about one of the ways we generate income and that is through Text-Link-Ads. How does it work? Ultimately what it comes down to is simply allowing advertisers to place a text link on your blog located in your sidebar. After you register your free account you submit your blog details so that it will fit nicely in their site directory. The directory is used for potential advertisers to sift through and find blogs to advertise on.
Once this is all set up you get a code to place in your sidebar and then you wait. The Text Link Ads team will find advertisers for you. Now most links cost anywhere between $15 and $30 for the advertiser. You split half of the revenue with Text Link Ads for providing the service. So if you end up getting $10 per link and offer 10 spots on your sidebar, then you have the potential to make $100 from your blog. Again, you won’t get rich from it but you will have $100 more than you did a month ago.
Most programs work this way. That is why investing in many programs will help insure you have many income streams and if one doesn’t do very well one month, then you have other ways to make money.
Have you used Text Link Ads? If so, have you been successful? If not, give it a try…

I was using text link ads on my site and it was working great but google does not like it. They soon changed my page rank from 4 to 0. I started reading more about this problem and discovered that that if I continue to use text-link-ads that Google will become more harsh with my site. It was not worth it so I stopped using them.
