How To Retire In Style

It’s said that human beings stand out from other species by virtue of our ability to think and plan ahead. While that may be true, most of us also have great trouble thinking about or preparing for the long term in the middle of our daily tasks and toil. Heck, it’s difficult enough to plan something just six months ahead, like a summer vacation. How on earth are we supposed to be able to think about something in the distant future — like retirement?
However, thinking in advance, and acting on those thoughts, are keys to being ready when the future becomes the present. The younger you are, the more distant your retirement — and the greater your ability to compound your returns over time. That paradox can work to your advantage.
In this collection, we try to answer the important questions:
- How much will I need for my retirement in order to live comfortably?
- What are my goals?
- When should I start?
- What should I do?
- How much can I count on from Social Security?
- What costs might I run into once I’ve actually retired?
We all need to ask these questions, but with all our short-term preoccupations, we often wait too long to do so. These 13 Retirement Steps, along with a bevy of tools for running the numbers, can help you cut through the haze and see the realities that will make your golden years truly golden — in fine Foolish fashion. Let’s get started!
The Rest of the Story Ends

Paul Harvey died at the age of 90 today. He probably is one of the most recognizable voices ever on the radio. While he had strong supportive views on the 2nd amendment his surprising support for radical animal right groups is what alienated him from many. No matter what you thought about Paul Harvey he was one of the greatest media personalities of all times. Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones he left behind.

Big Ten Basketball Predicted Finishes: Michigan State Spartans
by Tim GossettFebruary 28, 2009

Kalin Lucas
Michigan State has had a really good year; at 22-5 and a top 10 ranking, there’s no coach who treats the Spartans as any slouch–but yet my gut tells me that Tom Izzo doesn’t necessarily think that the Spartans are playing even close to the level they should be at–and with a Big Ten title still not locked up, the Spartans still have some work to do.
Remaining Conference games:
at Illinois Loss
The MSU offense has struggled as of late, and in their win over Iowa, the Spartans looked plain lethargic at home. Going into the Lion’s Den in Champaign where the Illini have locked down opponents game in and game out, it doesn’t bode well.
at Indiana Win
With the Spartans only needing 1 game to clinch at least a tie for the regular season title, the clincher will be here in Bloomington. Michigan State should be up by 20…within the first 10 minutes of the game.
vs. Purdue Win
The Izzo factor will be every reason as to why the Spartans should win this game; he will rev up his troops and probably get Raymar Morgan out of his slump to overpower the Boilermakers in East Lansing.
Big Ten Tournament: Finals
Michigan State has always done well in this tournament, as has Illinois, so we could very well see another final featuring these two teams. The only stumbling block I believe the Spartans could have on their way to the finals would be Wisconsin, who could very well play the Spartans in the semis.
Postseason Outlook: NCAA
The Spartans should take at lowest a 4 seed, and if they win the Big Ten tournament, it could go to a 3. I would say that if Goran Suton and Morgan really up their game and Durrell Summers and Kalin Lucas continue to build upon their stellar guard play, Michigan State could very realistically make it to the Elite 8, and depending upon the draw there, may be in the Final Four.

Get OUT on the Road
by Kevin CallahanFebruary 28, 2009
Spring is almost here and the weather will make you want to ride for sure. You just might want to look cool on a motor cycle.
A Triumph motorcycle could even make me look almost cool.
Some iconic Hollywood stars rode a Triumph on the big screen.
Remember, Steve McQueen speeding from a German POW camp in The Great Escape on a '61 Triumph TR6 Trophy Bird, which was disguised as a wartime BMW.
How about Clint Eastwood on aTriumph TR6 in Coogan's Bluff.
Then there was Richard Gere in An Officer and a Gentleman riding a Bonneville 750 T140E.
Maybe the most memorable was Marlon Brando on his Triumph Thunderbird 650 in The Wild One.
If you don't want to dream anymore about being cool, it is easier than ever to buy the brilliant British bike.
Triumph Motorcycles proudly announces the newest member of the Triumph family: DeSimone MotorSport.
