Community Bloggers Award - 9/27/2007
September 27, 2007
I have not given out the Skinny Moose Community Bloggers Award in several weeks as I have been real busy and haven’t had much time to dedicate to this award. But, this week I would like to provide another blogger with the award, and this time it goes to Kristine Shreve of Gun Safety Innovations. This also comes just in time for the broadcast of Open Air with Tom Remington, where Kristine is the guest. Kristine is the Director of Marketing for GSI and fellow blogger.
Kristine is also a founding member of the Outdoor Bloggers Summit, an organization committed to uniting outdoor bloggers. The following is their mission:
The Outdoor Bloggers Summit will do the following:
# Support conservation efforts and positively portray the value of outdoor pursuits
# Encourage and support the efforts of existing outdoor bloggers
# Offer incentive and support for new bloggers who might wish to blog about the outdoors
# Unite the voices of bloggers so we can speak as one about critical issues that effect outdoor pursuits.
# Provide a clearinghouse for information about outdoor pursuits
Kristine is a great leader in outdoor affairs and reaches out into the community daily. This award is well deserved, so Kristine has the option to place this badge on her blog somewhere with a link back.

Congrats!!
Desert Rat Does Interviews; Community Award
August 21, 2007
Skinny Moose Media blogger Marshall MacFarlane of Desert Rat has been busy lately. He has been able to interview a couple people and blog about it.
The first interview was with Rick Forrest, the Founder of Sonoran Bowhunting Products, Inc.
Marshall’s last interview was with Ben Brochu, Unit 37B Wildlife Manager out in Arizona.
So I would actually like to take this opportunity to award Marshall with the Community Bloggers Award. This is a new thing we are doing here at Skinny Moose, and for those who make that extra step and get out into the community, do interviews, cover events, etc… and blog about it are eligible for the Community Bloggers Award. Marshall has the option to place this badge on his blog somewhere with a link back.

Congrats Desert Rat!!
Community Blogger Award, August 9th
August 9, 2007
Last week I handed out Skinny Moose’s first Community Blogger Award to Rick at Tails and Trails. Well I think it is that time again to hand out another award. This is something new we are doing and the award shows that the blogger has taken that extra step… and has gotten out into the community.
Now, this can be done in many ways. People can put together interviews with other people, visit local businesses and do a story on them, or attend a show and come back and blog about it. There are unlimited things one can do to reach out into the community and make that connection.
This week’s Community Blogger Award goes to Rex at Deer Camp Blog. Rex is always getting involved in the community, going to fun events and blogging about them. One of the coolest things I have seen recently was when Rex attended the Watermelon Carnival. You can see pictures of some outstanding watermelon carvings.
And of course there is the biggest watermelon contest. If you get a chance to visit Rex’s blog you will see he is always blogging about the community by getting out there, taking pictures and bringing back a story.
So Rex has the option to place the following badge on his blog somewhere.

Congrats Rex and keep up the good work.
Community Blogger Award
August 2, 2007
One of our goals here at Skinny Moose Media is to get bloggers thinking of their online blogging as “new media” and reporting some of the news that is taking place which is influencing your passion as an outdoor enthusiast. We have discussed many ways we can become better bloggers and that is to unplug that computer and get out into the community.
Some of the things you can do is make time to interview someone in your area, such as a gun shop owner, game warden, or some hunting or fishing guide. There are so many opportunities to get out into the community and report on things. Show up to events and do a story on it. Skinny Moose Media will be issued press passes for the ATA Show in January. We plan to send a couple bloggers to cover the event and report on it.
Darrell from Alpha Trilogy sent me an email explaining a great way to get out into the community:
Sponsor a charity event. If you can’t afford to make a donation, volunteer your time or offer prizes. My company regularly provides prizes for charity events (especially charity auctions) and we, in turn, receive positive press and mention in the charity publications. You can get creative with the prizes. One day deer hunting on my 100 acre farm, etc. These are the types of things that generate the most interest for the charity.
You could also organize a ‘take a kid’ fishing day. You could start on a small scale by doing it for a single class or grade at school. Most schools are very receptive to the idea. If this is too big an undertaking, simply offer to go to a local school and talk to the kids about fishing. Demonstrate how it is done and talk about how much fun it is. Show pictures, a slide show, etc. You might influence some kids to enjoy the outdoors and you can bet those kids will go home and tell their parents about the cool fishing guy that talked at their school today.
So, Skinny Moose Media will be looking for blogs/bloggers who have taken that extra step to reach out into the community. We will be looking for bloggers who have walked away from their computers and have made a connection to people offline about who they are online. We are not seeking only Skinny Moose Media bloggers but all bloggers. We feel that bloggers can help shape how they are represented by going out and showing we have a passion in what we do.
So Skinny Moose Media will be awarding bloggers on a regular basis when we see others working to make that connection with the community. If you see someone who you feel deserves to be awarded please contact me here at Skinny Moose Media. For those who we award you have the option to place the following badge on your own blog with a link back to Skinny Moose.

First Community Award
So I would like to take the time now to award our very first blogger who highly deserves this.
Rick from Tails and Trails, has been working hard to get out into the community, reach people, and report it on his blog. He has completed 2 interviews. The first one he did was with the VP/Awards Chairman of the Northeast Big Buck Club after he attended their annual Awards Banquet.
Rick’s 2nd interview was with Terry Drury of Drury Outdoors. I believe it was a phone interview.
Not only does Rick do interviews but he covers local clubs and organizations in his area and reports on what they are up to. He constantly making connections with those out in the community and for this I would like to award him with the Skinny Moose Media Community Blogger Award.
Congrats Rick!!!
