I’m resisting blogging about every little bit of Brett Favre news, because frankly, I want some resolution one way or another. But I had to comment on this: A Milwaukee Journal Sentinel poll on what Favre should be doing this season. It looks like the poll was taken down, but before it was, only about 6 percent of respondents said he should play for another team, and the rest just about split down the middle between the Packers reinstalling him as the starter and Favre simply staying retired.

On ESPN’s “PTI” today, Michael Wilbon theorized the Packers have their fans brainwashed if that many want him to retire. I disagree — I think most who voted for retirement just don’t want to see him play somewhere else. If he’s not going to be a Packer, then they’d rather him not belong to any team at all. But that looks increasingly like it’s not going to happen. Packer fans better brace themselves for Favre in another uniform, because I think the team is going to flinch first. And it shouldn’t be the end of the world (unless he ends up in Minnesota) — was it for 49ers fans when Joe Montana left for Kansas City? He’ll always be remembered as a 49er, as will other Hall of Famers who finished out the careers with other teams — Johnny Unitas always will be remembered as a Colt, Emmitt Smith as a Cowboy, Joe Namath as a Jet and O.J. Simpson as an acquitted mur-, uh, I mean Billl.

There’s another poll on the Journal Sentinel’s Web site: Who should be the Packers’ QB this season? Favre is winning that with 57 percent of the vote. I wonder how much of the other 43 percent are Viking fans.
