    Sundays half day hunt

A friend and I made it out Sunday to a spot I hadn’t been to in a few months for a half day hunt.
It turned out to be a decent day, weather was good and cold, wind was mild and coyotes were out.
All coyotes came in fairly quick, most under three minutes. Sounds of the day was bird distress from the Foxpro. Two of these coyotes wouldn’t have been possible with out the MOJO Woodpecker. One came in from out hard right and had us pegged but still circled wide and stopped for one last look at the decoy. Another came in from down wind to take a look, my partner made a great running shot on that one.

    A little MOJO bags another

I had made plans to head out tomorrow for some calling and spending this morning earning my kitchen pass. But as soon as I made my way out to the deck for the morning coffee and seen frost everywhere knew I was in trouble. After a few cups I couldn’t take it any longer so I pack up the ol Cat Swatter and headed out for a couple quick stands. On my second stand I had the MOJO woodpecker and the FoxPro set out 20 yards in front of me on a cross wind set up. Less than a minute playing cotton tail distress I had this pretty little female on a hard charge straight for the Woodpecker. She checked up six steps from the decoy and I let her lick her lips a few times before I unleashed the Swatter. The quick trips out I take are usually in high pressure areas, Using a decoy adds a little more realism helping to bring in those call shy coyotes. The MOJO Woodpecker is quickly becoming my favorite decoy. They are lite, great on batteries and perfect for almost any stand. They come with an eyelet for hanging them in a tree and a stake for running them on the ground, truly universal.

    Mojo critter does it again

I was supposed to head down south for a day of calling but the weatherman said it might be a good idea if I didn’t. It was going to get pretty windy with a good chance of rain. So I decided to stay in town. Like yesterday it was a perfect morning for calling so after a few cups of coffee I had to head out. My plan was to head down the road from the house and do a stand or two. On my way I spotted a few coyotes out mousing in some state trust land so I pulled over and called them across the road for some pictures. I wish I had brought the new canon camera, but I had what I had. After a few pictures I headed to my spot.

I knew as soon as I got set up it was going to be a productive stand, the wind was good and it was overcast and cold.  A new sound I uploaded the other day (Harpin Hare) had been playing for 5-6 minuted when I caught this Coyote bearing down fast on the old MOJO Critter decoy. He had made it to 4-5′ from the decoy before I could get the Cat Swatter on him. I called for a little while longer, but there were no other takers.

    Cat Swatter strikes again!

Nice overcast days like today are hard for me to resist. I didn’t have a whole lot of time so I slipped out for a quick stand just outside the city limits. The caller had only been running for 3-4 minutes before I saw a Coyote sitting just outside shotgun range. I sat there thinking, I should have brought the Fireball, when I heard a diesel pick up headed down a near by dirt road. Just as I got that sinking feeling that the gig was up that Coyote came in hard on a beeline straight to the Mojo critter decoy I had set up on a little hill. Surprised, I had just enough time to get the shotgun up and dust roll him before he was on top of the caller and decoy. The guy in that truck ended up being another predator hunter. I thanked him for adding urgency on that stand and headed home.

For those of you who haven’t used the Mojo critter, I highly recommend giving them a go. They are well made and really bring em in!

    County sheriff’s successful coyote hunt.

Looks like old Joe is going to get back after them. Diferent kinda Coyote hunt, but needed none the less!

PHOENIX- The following is a press release from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office:

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Human Smuggling Unit stopped another load vehicle late yesterday, this one with 12 people inside a Chevy Astro, including the coyote.

The stop was made on I-17 near Anthem Way after deputies spotted the vehicle travelling with a rear brake light out.

Human smuggling detectives interviewed the occupants and determined that each agreed to pay between $700.00 and $1500.00 for illegal entry into the U.S. The illegals were destined for California and Mississippi.

Of those found in the vehicle, four (4) were booked into jail on state smuggling and coconspirator charges, a class four felony. The remaining were juveniles who were turned over to Immigration and Customs officials.

Sheriff Arpaio says the time for another crime suppression/human smuggling operation is drawing near. “We are readying deputies and the posse for a big upcoming operation,” Arpaio says

    Bobcat attacks Santa

This case may not have been a actual Bobcat, but there are those out there that try and domesticate these wild animals, usually with negative consequences. I met a domesticated Bobcat once and there wasn’t anything tame about it.

Santa thought he was going to get rabies for Christmas.

Professional Santa Jonathan Bebbington can relax: the feline that bit him last weekend at an Atlantic County pet store is neither rabid nor a wild bobcat.

Bebbington, 47, of Vineland, was working at a charity photo event in Mays Landing when the cat bit him, sparking a flurry of concern over whether Santa would need rabies shots.

According to Atlantic County Health officials and the cat’s owner, the animal was a Pixie-Bob, a domesticated cat distantly related to the wild bobcat.

Bebbington was posing with animals at a fundraiser for Penny Angel’s Beagle Rescue when Christine Haughey, of Egg Harbor, brought her large cat into the store on a leash and harness.

“There were dogs around, and the poor thing was terrified,” said Bebbington, who picked up the cat to calm it down. The state Department of Corrections locksmith has five years’ experience playing Santa to dogs and cats.

“It was a beautiful animal,” he added.

Just after a photographer snapped the picture, the cat sunk its teeth into Bebbington’s hand and wrist several times, drawing blood. It happened so fast, Haughey left before anyone thought to ask her whether the animal had a current rabies shot.

Initially, Bebbington worried that he would have to undergo a series of five rabies vaccinations and postpone his holiday vacation. But after Bebbington appeared Tuesday on NBC10, Haughey came forward.

Though bobcats are illegal to own as pets, the state veterinarian said that pixie-bobs are domesticated “hybrid” cats. They are larger than regular house cats and have shorter, stubbier tails, giving them a slight resemblance to bobcats.

Atlantic County Health officials said Haughey told them she bought “Benny” as a baby from a breeder. He had received all the necessary vaccines, she said, including a rabies shot.

As a precaution, state health officials said they asked Haughey to keep the cat inside for two weeks to make sure he does not show signs of disease.

Meanwhile, Bebbington’s bites are healing nicely.

“I’m just glad it’s all turning out for the better,” he said.

    Sun City residents poison Coyotes?

Looks like there might be some one in Sun City disgruntled from a loss of a small dog? Or possibly the Coyotes are just collateral damage in a war against a neighbors animal?

4 Coyotes have been found dead around Sun city golf courses, believed to have been poisoned. Being they were found near golf courses has me wondering if my last post didn’t have something to do with the poor Coyotes misfortune. Very disturbing to think that these coyotes may have payed the ultimate consequence for my spin on liberal media. ;)
