Bowfishing outing 4/10/08 - first mirror carp of the year
Posted by dihardhunter on April 11, 2008

Well, I made it out yesterday afternoon for a couple of hours to my honeyhole that has been producing unlimited action so far this spring. The water was up about 2 and a half feet higher than it was last Friday, but I was immediately greeted by the sounds of splashing carp, a sure indication that the carp spawn is about to be upon us! There were schools of males just banging away at the sides of female carp as they swam through the flooded timber. I basically just took 5 or 6 stands on the top of stumps anywhere from 1 to 4 feet above the water surface. These vantage points gave me great opportunities at passing schools of carp. I got not one but two doubles as the carp were just packed into little swimming wads.
Sorry bout the quality of this picture but spots were limited to sit the camera and take my own picture.
The picture shows 22 carp, but I lost 3 more after I had them landed, so I’ll say 25 fish got the fiberglass whacking. Also shot a tiny common carp that swam a little too close, I’d be surprised if it weighed more than a pound. Also, I got my first mirror carp of the year, just average sized but a cool little bonus to an otherwise solid carp bag. Can’t wait to get back out.
