Sen. Brimer and TDA Support Cook Children’s Medical Center

May 20, 2008

SAN ANTONIO — The Texas Deer Association (TDA) recently worked together with Senator Kim Brimer of State Senate District 10 in donating 50 plush deer toys to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth. The toy deer are a solace to sick and distressed children, and the medical center is already using the toys to comfort children coming out of surgery and while in intensive care.

“I am proud Cook Children’s Healthcare System is in the heart of my State Senate District,” says Sen. Brimer. “They do an outstanding job of taking care of the healthcare needs of Texas’ most precious citizens. I appreciate the Texas Deer Association’s willingness to share the plush deer toy, named ‘Baby.’ I hope Baby makes many children at Cook’s very happy.”

The TDA presented the cuddly toys to Jill Koss, director of family support services, and William Craig, vice president of clinical support services, for Cook Children’s Medical Center. Also in attendance were District Director Becky Redman and Director of Constituent Services April Mitchell, representing Sen. Brimer who has a long history of supporting children’s issues in Tarrant County and District 10.

“We are especially proud of being able to help hospitalized children at Cook Children’s Medical Center through this unique donation and it was a real pleasure to work with representatives from Sen. Brimer’s office to make this happen,” says Lisa Wallgren, a regional officer for the Texas Deer Association. “The little deer provide a lot of comfort to the kids who are going through a tough time at the hospital.”

Cook Children’s Health Care System is based in Fort Worth and consists of a nationally recognized Medical Center, Physician Network, Home Health company, Health Plan, Northeast Hospital and Health Foundation. The companies make up an integrated system that allows Cook Children’s to provide the right care in the right setting by the right person.

The TDA is the only non-profit organization solely committed to improving the quality of Texas deer herds through better habitat practices, modern harvest strategies and use of superior deer to enhance the deer herds. As a part of its public education efforts, the TDA publishes a full-color bimonthly magazine, Tracks, which updates TDA members on current legislative news, deer genetics and game management issues. The TDA also hosts an annual convention and trade show every August featuring fund-raising auctions, a deer auction, golf tournament and other events.
