The American Deer & Wildlife Alliance Pledges Support for BoatUS ANGLER Program

March 5, 2009

AUSTIN, Texas – American anglers are much too often faced with unfair taxes and burdensome regulations that take the fun out of owning a boat, and the American Deer & Wildlife Alliance (ADWA) joins the Boat Owners Association of the United States (BoatU.S.) in the fight to protect outdoor traditions for families and our next generation. BoatU.S. ANGLER is a membership program geared towards boat-owning anglers and offers benefits and services for inland freshwater and near-shore saltwater fishermen.

“In our youth activities, the point is to get families and kids outdoors whether it’s in the woods hunting or on the water fishing,” says Annie Jones, ADWA director of operations. “In 2006, the BoatU.S. Foundation’s Life Jacket Loaner for Kids program reached over 350 locations in 50 states. This is a great accomplishment for BoatU.S., and the bigger picture is that they are making it more accessible for kids to get out on the water. ADWA members seem to own as many boats as they do land.”

‘Life Jacket Loaner for Kids’ encourages families to stay safe by having the right-sized life jacket, and encourages businesses to lend out kids’ life jackets at no cost to families who have a temporary need for one. “This BoatU.S. program makes it easier for families to spend time together fishing or boating, which in turn increases outdoor activity participation,” adds Jones.

A membership to BoatUS ANGLER offers access to unique insurance policies just for fishing boats, fishing guide insurance coverage, 24-hour on-the-water and on-the-road towing service, and includes discounts on boating and fishing equipment, marina discounts of fuel and repairs, a subscription to BoatU.S. ANGLER magazine, an online guide and charter locator, and a wealth of information on BoatUSAngler.com.

“With over 600,000 boaters as members, it didn’t take long to learn that boaters love to fish,” adds BoatU.S. spokesman Mike Pellerin. “Our program was created to give anglers a reliable way to call for assistance when things don’t go so well, and partnership with the American Deer & Wildlife Alliance allows us to not only contribute to youth outdoor activities, but serves an extension of our outreach programs such as trade show attendance, sponsoring fishing seminars and local bass tournaments. Our official launch of BoatU.S. ANGLER coincided with the 2006 National Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship, of which we were the title sponsor. Televised on the Fox Sports Network, we introduced our new program to anglers and boaters.”

Jones states: “Many ADWA members read BoatU.S. ANGLER Magazine, just as most hunters like to fish either in the off-season or year-round if they’re lucky. The best of the best writers contribute to features providing expert information on freshwater and near-shore saltwater angling.”
