Mules build fire line
I’ve been following a few fires in California in anticipation of opening day of the B-zone hunting season. While closures are still in effect, it seems that fire crews are makling progress on a number of fires from the June lightning strike complex that has smoked in communities from the oregon line to the Bay area.
I was particularly interested as I caught these pictures of a mule string being used to create fireline with a drag on a fire recently. Now this is real horsepower. The resolution of the picture is tolow and they get fuzzy fuzzy if any bigger, but you can see pictures and updates from fires in your area, at INCIWEB

Well, it’s half horsepower anyhow! Never heard the term donkey power, though, so we’ll go with the horsepower. Pretty interesting that with all the technology that is out there - they choose to use mules! Chalk one up for the Old West!
