Bear Captured in Northwest Albuquerque After 30-Foot Fall - Western Wanderer - Rack Tracker, In the West

Bear Captured in Northwest Albuquerque After 30-Foot Fall

Looks like Yogi came into town in New Mexico and got more than he bargained for.

After a week of searching, a black bear that had been roaming Los Ranchos was finally caught after a 30-foot fall….

Once the bear decided to climb high up a tree, the question for wildlife officers was how to get the bear down from its 30-foot perch.

They shot the bear with a tranquilizer and waited for it to fall asleep and then land on an airbag on the ground. Officials had to carefully estimate where and how the bear would fall in order to place the airbag to avoid injury to the animal.

    1. Tom Sorenson Says:

I wonder if a bear roaming around town might be better served being shot with a 7 mm gun rather than a tranquilizer gun!

That would be quite a trick, though - catching a sleeping bear as it falls from a tree.
