First Bowkill
My daughter Ashlyn has been going hunting and fishing with me since she could walk. Ashlyn killed her first deer with a rifle on her 5th birthday and went hog wild with hunting and being outdoors. She is now 9 and has taken 11 deer and several hogs with a rifle, but being that I am a serious bowhunter and 3d shooter it didnt take her long to want to hunt with the bow.
In May I took her to a friend of mines farm that was overun with hogs. We had set up a feeder and popup blind on a previous visit and the hogs were hitting it on a regular basis. We got into the blind around 6:30pm and didnt have long to wait as a hog came by about 10minutes later but would not come into a shooting lane and then winded us and left. We sat for a while longer and the feeder went off at 7;30 and within 5 minutes there were 20+ hogs around the blind. Ashlyn was excited but kept her cool and picked a young meat hog out when they came by the window at 10yds. She drew her Hoyt Banshee set at 33lbs shooting a 1713 shaft with 85gr magnus head, picked a spot and let her fly driving the arrow all the way through the 65lb porker. Hogs scattered at the shot but I was able to follow hers for a while as it ran down the hill.
After waiting about 30min we picked up the bloodtrail and found the arrow. At the same time some of the other pigs came back and Ashlyn took another shot but failed to see a limb between her and he hog. We got back on the blooktrail and followed it about 125yds down the hill where her hog lay. She was pumped up after that and wants to go all the time now and has even quit playing ball to shoot 3d and hunt. She told me that if she were able she would just hunt all the time.

Congratulations to Ashlyn on that first bowkill!
She’s one ahead of me so far, and I’ve been at it for almost four years now!
