Leave it to Terrell Owens to start a ruckus during the Dallas Cowboy’s recent bye week. He suggests that the implosion of this year’s team, one that many had picked as a Super Bowl contender, began to have problems after their week one loss to the Washington Redskins.
The Dallas Cowboys have been plagued by injuries to many of their top stars over the past few weeks. Owens attributes much of the team’s failures to unhealthy players and over confidence going in to this season. He mentions everyone needing to take a step back and look at what is really there.
With many of the injured players supposedly making returns in the next couple of weeks, Owens says to not be surprised if the Cowboys suddenly turn things around for the better. “There are always two halves to every season.”

Indianapolis Colts Quarterback Peyton Manning underwent surgery on his left knee Monday. The surgery was due to an infected bursa sac in his left knee (whatever that is..right?). Manning could be out 4-6 weeks, effectively placing him out of the Indianapolis Colts lineup till after the first week of regular season.
On a good note, that means that second string quarterback Jim Sorgi can now take the snaps (and the loses) much as he did last year…and the year before….and the year before.
Seriously, if I were a second string quaterback behind a Peyton Manning or a Brett Favre–two guys that never miss a game, I would probably treat the preseason as if it were the Superbowl. What’s to lose? You have another 16 weeks to recover from any injuries because everyone knows your not going to see a play all season-
Pro Football Talk is even mentioning that this surgery and Manning’s estimated recovery time could be a fluke. Last season, Marvin Harrison was rumored to only be out a couple of weeks, yet he didn’t make it back till very late in the season. Many had proposed that the Indianapolis Colts had tried to trick their opponents by making them think Harrison could come back at any point. We now know that Harrison’s injury was a bit more serious.
So what is Pro Football Talk’s solution to an injured Peyton Manning? Brett Favre of course!
Seriously, how cool would that be? Two greats on the same team. Not sure if Brett would like to be second string, but it would surely make for some interesting quarterback battles throughout the year. I don’t really see this scenario playing out, but it sure would be fun!

The Indianapolis Colts 2008-9 NFL Schedule looks to be a tough one. It is still a bit early for me to start contemplating the winners and losers, but I thought I would put up an early view of the schedule and let you decide. Here’s the games and the dates.
- Chicago Bears–Sept. 7
- at Minnesota Vikings–Sept. 14
- Jacksonville–Sept. 21
- BYE
- at Houston Texans–Oct. 5
- Baltimore Ravens–Oct. 12
- at Green Bay–Oct. 19
- at Tennessee–Oct. 27
- New England Patriots–Nov. 2
- at Pittsburgh–Nov. 9
- Houston Texans–Nov. 16
- at San Diego–Nov. 23
- at Cleveland–Nov. 30
- Cincinnati–Dec. 7
- Detroit–Dec. 14
- at Jacksonville–Dec. 18
- Tennessee–Dec. 28
Taking a quick look of the schedule, there a couple of things that pop up on the immediate radar. The biggest will be the New England Patriots at home on November 2nd. There is truly not a bigger game or Rivalry in the NFL today. This game is always much anticipated, and happens to fall on Peyton Manning’s turf this year. That game aside, what else is interesting?
There is the making for a lot of upsets this year. Tennessee has always presented a good game, and before the league realignment a few years back, this was a rivalry that was always looked upon with interest. Keep December 18 & 28 pegged for a possible Colts upset, my bet would be Jacksonville on the Thursday night game, only 4 days off from the Colts playing an improving Detroit team.
San Diego also pops out. They have been right in the middle of the Superbowl chase for a couple of years now. This team could present a problem if they bring their A game. There are also many teams that I am still undecided on, as far as how they may look in the coming year. Chicago, Minnesota, Houston, Green bay, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati could all be interesting games depending upon what team shows up.
What are your thoughts on the schedule?

The Sporting News is reporting that former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has filed for bankruptcy protection while serving time for charges stemming from his recent federal dogfighting charges. Vick owes his creditors in the neighborhood of $10-$50 million dollars and has no income while he is in prison.
The suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback hopes he “can, after the conclusion of the bankruptcy case, rebuild his life on a personal and spiritual level, resurrect his image as a public figure, and resolve matters with the NFL such that he can resume his career,” according to the filings.
You know, sometimes crime just doesn’t pay off the way it was originally envisioned.
Vick is serving a 23 month sentence for a federal dogfighting crime. He is currently locked up in Leavenworth, Kansas.

The discussions are heating up that Brett Favre may be on the comeback trail. If this rumor ends up being true, Brett would have sat out a total of ‘0′ games while in retirement. Does that even count??
I give Brett all the credit in the world. He is one of the greatest quarterbacks to have played the game. He has won Superbowls and MVP’s, he got within one interception of doing it again last season, yet, one has to wonder why Brett Favre would come back. Perhaps he just loves the game. That may be hard to believe, but take gambling away from Charles Barkley and see how long he stays away from the tables…some people just love what they do.
The Brett banter going on around the internet questions whether the Packers even need him or will allow him to come back. The cheeseheads say they rather let the past be the past and move on with an unproven quarterback who looks to have a great future. Looks can be deceiving–just ask Vince Young. Vince had everything going for him, yet, three years into the NFL and he was contemplating retirement. How about Ricky Williams? Great runner, I’ll give him that, but when you have to stop at the 50 yard line for bong hits, it starts to get a little ridiculous. You just never know how someone is going to turn out. Vince and Ricky may both be able to turn things around.
I say go with the veteran. He almost took Green Bay to the Superbowl last year and they weren’t even thought of as a contender. Why not have him play teacher to the young pup and show him the ropes for one more year? Green Bay, what are you thinking? Instead you rather see Brett in another jersey?
This decision could be the difference between a 13 win team and a mediocre 6-7 win team. Then again, Aaron Rodgers could be the next Tom Brady.
