Leave it to Terrell Owens to start a ruckus during the Dallas Cowboy’s recent bye week. He suggests that the implosion of this year’s team, one that many had picked as a Super Bowl contender, began to have problems after their week one loss to the Washington Redskins.

The Dallas Cowboys have been plagued by injuries to many of their top stars over the past few weeks. Owens attributes much of the team’s failures to unhealthy players and over confidence going in to this season. He mentions everyone needing to take a step back and look at what is really there.

With many of the injured players supposedly making returns in the next couple of weeks, Owens says to not be surprised if the Cowboys suddenly turn things around for the better. “There are always two halves to every season.”

I have signed up for ESPN’s Fantasy Football for the third year. Once again, I am using the “Auburn Jayhawks” as my team of choice–kind of a take on my own name, but I have used the same team name for three years running and have yet to record a losing season. Perhaps I am a bit superstitious.

Last year seen my team make a good run, even though most of my picks were middle-of-the-field. I ended the season with one regular season loss, then somehow managed to get beat out in the first round of the playoffs–let’s just say I wasn’t to happy.

This season should be a bit better. I have drawn a good team of players and look to be pretty balanced. How is this for Quarterbacks: Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, and Brett Favre. Not to shabby. Where else in the world could you actually see peyton and Eli play on the same team? That’s right, it is history in the making–

One problem to that equation-I now have to figure out who to start in the first game. Peyton is currently injured, but should be back for the first game, I am just not sure how long he will play. Brett Favre was a gamble, but I still think he has some good games left in him. His chemistry with the Jets may not be clicking by that first game, though.

I am leaning towards starting Eli. He doesn’t put up huge numbers often and is coming off a Superbowl win. I wonder how his off season has went? Superbowl’s are known to destroy the following season.

When I first mentioned my three Quarterbacks, it looked great on paper. In reality it may be another stressful year, depending upon how these guys carry themselves on the field. I would love to start Peyton every game, but that injury bothers me–especially going in to game one.

My first game will be against a team by the name of the Huntington Beach Chargers, who will be lead by Quarterback Jay Cutler. Cutler averaged 12.4 fantasy points a game last season. By going on last year’s points, both Peyton Manning and Brett Favre averaged more.

By reading from a report on ESPN, it looks like Peyton may be back to practicing with the Colts in two weeks–if..and that’s a BIG IF..he does show back up before the season starts and seems to be doing well, I will start him. If not, I may just have to go with Eli and rely on the rest of my team to back me up.

That’s a quick look at my three Quarterbacks before the season starts. Anyone want to throw out some thoughts on who I should start? My next article will focus on my running back situation (or lack there of) and see what plan i can come up with for that first game.

Can anyone stop Michael Phelps from attaining 8 gold medals in the 2008 Beijing Olympics? Michael wrapped up his 6th world record tonight in the 200-meter individual medley and also gained his 6th Olympic Gold for the session. He bested his own previous world record by swimming a time of 1 minute, 54.23 seconds. That’s a mere .57 of a second quicker than the previous mark set at last month’s U.S. Swimming Trials.

Michael Phelps is already the world’s most decorated Olympic athlete, and at 23 years-old, he could very well contine right on into the 2012 and 2016 Olympic games-

Things are beginning to take shape for Michael to do as he previously planned: break Mark Spitz’s record of 7 gold’s in one Olympic games, which mark set back in 1972.

Michael Phelps recently attained the honor of becoming the single-most winningest single athlete in Olympic history. Over the course of two Olympic games, 2004 and 2008, Michael has captured an astonishing 11 gold medals and two bronzes. He still has three events to go in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where Michael is hoping his current string of success will allow him to break the mark for most Olympic gold medals in one Olympics–8. He currently has 5, setting 5 world records in the process.

11 Gold medals might seem impressive. If he accomplishes his goal of 8 gold medals in 2008, that will bring his total to 14—plus two bronzes. Michael Phelps is 23. In the year 2012, when the Olympics barge in to London, Michael Phelps will be 27. He has already stated he will be competing in 2012. Beyond that, he could actually work in one or two more Olympics before calling it a career. Amazing? I think most people are finally starting to grasp what is taking place before their eyes–It is truly an amazing time in Olympic history and Michael’s feats may be there for a very…very long time.

What fuels Michael Phelps? Passion. Drive. Determination. 12,000 calories a day. What?

The New York Post has put up an article with a typical Michael Phelps menu for one day:

Phelps lends a new spin to the phrase “Breakfast of Champions” by starting off his day by eating three fried-egg sandwiches loaded with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayonnaise.

He follows that up with two cups of coffee, a five-egg omelet, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast topped with powdered sugar and three chocolate-chip pancakes.

At lunch, Phelps gobbles up a pound of enriched pasta and two large ham and cheese sandwiches slathered with mayo on white bread - capping off the meal by chugging about 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks.

For dinner, Phelps really loads up on the carbs - what he needs to give him plenty of energy for his five-hours-a-day, six-days-a-week regimen - with a pound of pasta and an entire pizza.

He washes all that down with another 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks.

I’m puking just thinking about that. How can one man cram that much gunk down his throat and still perform like a superstar? When you swim 50 miles a week, as well as work out in the weight room a couple of hours a day, you can kind of see where the calories go. I might be able to hang with Michael Phelps through breakfast–the problem is, after that I would be done. He’s just getting started.

I always find these high-caliber athletes’ food regimens to be quite intriguing. I wonder how Lance Armstrong fueled up for his 7 Tour de France victories. I also wonder what happens to these guys’ eating habits once they decide to call it a career. Are their bodies attuned to 12,000 calories a day? You would have to stay pretty active in the off-season, and in to retirement, to not become a major porker.

Oklahoma City has finally come up with a name for their new NBA franchise. The franchise, itself, isn’t new-the former Seattle Supersonics, but now they have a new city, a new name, and possibly a new commotion from NBA fans.

Oklahoma City unveiled their new team name, The Oklahoma City Thunder. If you think that sounds like an Arena football team name, your not alone. Some NBA fans have even gone on record to state that the new team name sounds much like a team that would be featured in the WNBA. That’s a pretty harsh analysis, yet one has to wonder how this will effect the marketing.

I recently posted about the Oklahoma City Thunder’s new uniforms and colors. The black and white structure just doesn’t play to the “Thunder” name, but I guess I will just have to wait and see how this all comes together. We all know that NBA team names and uniforms are not the basis for a successful team. That will only be measured in wins, something the previous Seattle Supersonics had a hard time doing

I have just read an article that mentions that Barry Bonds has entered into talks to join the New York Yankees. There’s a match fit for each other. Barry’s ordeal has taken a bit of time. He hasn’t played for a team in close to a year, but I have to admit that it might be nice seeing him back on the field. He can (could) still produce for a team if they decide to give him the opportunity.

I don’t know, but I am a bit biased. I actually like Barry, no matter what the circumstances of the last couple of years–steroids or not, Barry spent a lot of time at the top of his game and he is still always fun to watch.

It is mentioned that Bonds’ contract talks may involve some specific clauses for his playing time. We all know that he has a big congressional trial heading his way that may lead to some missed games.

Let’s hope it works out either way. You know, the older I get, the more I start rooting for the older players…haha.

When I took over this blog, a week or so ago, I alluded to the fact that there may be some changes in store. I have finally been able to do a bit of work and figure out how to add some video around here. This required adding a new plugin. Now I have to find a few more sources besides ESPN, even though that keeps one busy in and of itself. All posts won’t be videos, but it is nice to know that I can use this medium a little more often. no one likes to read all the time, sometimes it is just fun to sit back and watch.

Posted right below this small update are two videos of interest. One involves a recent incident with John Daly, while the other offers up some fond memories of Yankee Stadium as the last MLB AllStar Game took place lastnight.

While I am on the subject of Yankee Stadium, anyone know what the Yank’s plans are for this historic structure?

I have also added some nice sports blogs in to the sidebar. There aren’t many there yet, but it will definitely be growing. The ones listed currently are very entertaining and offer up some news and insight to their respective areas. I will be visiting these on a more regular basis, and perhaps offering up some commentary along the way. Thanks for stopping by.
