MORGAN, UTAH - The Browning Citori has built a reputation as the finest, most reliable over and under shotgun available. For 2008 Browning will introduce the new Citori 625, the next in a legendary line of high-performance shotguns. Performance is improved with the addition of the all new Vector Pro™ extended forcing cones that are designed to improve ballistic performance. A new modified trigger offers a lighter, crisper pull.

Like all Browning Citori over and unders, the new 625 has a fit and finish that rival that of guns costing much more with tight, consistent wood-to-metal fit. Action components are machined to exacting tolerances, heat-treated for added strength and hand-fitted using the traditional lampblack-and-file method to ensure the precise fit of critical components.

Vector Pro™ Extended Forcing Cones. Back-boring is proven to improve shot patterns, and Browning’s new Vector Pro does it better than anyone else in the industry. Vector Pro features extended forcing cones that are over 2″ longer than other systems. The taper is much more gradual than the 5° industry specification for even less shot deformation resulting in more uniform and consistent patterns. The Vector Pro geometry completely eliminates any step or double taper between the chamber and bore.

The new Citori 625 will also feature all new wood checkering patterns that are both striking in appearance and highly functional, adding additional traction in all conditions. A new receiver engraving pattern combines tradition with a modern flare.

Citori 625 Field and 625 Sporting models will be offered for 2008. Receivers have a silver nitride finish with high-relief engraving. Stocks are gloss oil finish with Grade II/III walnut with radius pistol grip and Schnabel forearm.

The Citori 625 Field will be offered in 12 gauge only with 26″ or 28″ lightweight profile barrels. Three Invector Plus™ choke tubes are included. Browning Citori 626 Field, Suggested Retail, $2,299.00.

The new Citori 625 Sporting in both standard and adjustable comb stock models in 12 gauge only. Barrel lengths offered are 32″, 30″ and 28″. Five new Diamond Grade extended Invector Plus™ choke tubes will be supplied. Browning’s Triple Trigger System is also featured that allows the shooter to fine tune the length of pull and switch between a wide checkered, a narrow smooth and a wide smooth canted trigger shoe. HiViz® Pro-Comp fiber-optic front sights are also featured on the 625 Sporting model. Browning Citori 625 Sporting Suggested Retail, $3,299.00 with standard stock and $3499.00 with adjustable comb stock.

For related photos, click here.

Marking the first trip to the Palmetto State since the enormously successful and exciting 2008 Bassmaster Classic, South Carolina is the destination for the Bassmaster Elite Series’ Carolina Clash presented by Evan Williams Bourbon, set for May 15-18 on Lake Murray out of Columbia, S.C.

As always, fishing fans can watch the on-the-water action from the May 15-18 Carolina Clash on The Bassmasters, which airs Saturday, May 24, at 9 a.m. ET on ESPN2.

Created in the 1930s, Lake Murray is a top fishing destination in the Southeastern U.S and has been the site of 10 previous BASS events. This will be the first Bassmaster Elite Series event held there.

Elite pro Casey Ashley of Donalds, S.C., has fished Lake Murray many times, and he said next week’s event will bring some big fish.

“It’s going to be a topwater slugfest,” Ashley said. “The herring will be running. It’ll be a lot like Clarks Hill, it’ll be post-spawn and the fish will be up in the flats. A lot of topwater action … that’s all you can do. Maybe throw in a jig now and then.”

Last week, Ashley finished fifth in the Pride of Georgia presented by Evan Williams Bourbon. Since he thinks Murray will fish similarly to Clarks Hill, the South Carolinian hopes the upcoming event in his home state will deliver a second straight top-five finish, and maybe victory.

“I sure hope so,” Ashley said.

He’ll have some serious competition for the win from fellow South Carolina native Davy Hite, the 1999 Bassmaster Classic winner and a seven-time BASS event winner who also enjoyed a top-five finish at Clarks Hill.

“I lived on that lake for 30 years,” Hite said of Lake Murray. “It’s a great lake, a beautiful place. There’ll be an awful lot of fish caught. I can promise you I’ll go there trying to win. Other than winning the Classic, winning an Elite tournament on Lake Murray would probably be my No. 1 goal for a tournament to win. It’s got a very, very special place in my heart.”

Hite estimates that it will take about 65-70 pounds to win the Carolina Clash, while Ashley guessed it would take around 80 pounds.

Daily weigh-ins and launches will take place at the Lake Murray Marina & Yacht Club, 1600 Marina Rd., Irmo, S.C. Launches Thursday-Sunday begin at 6:30 a.m. and weigh-ins begin at 3 p.m.

Fans can meet the Elite Series pros at Angler Alley presented by OPTIMA Batteries from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at the Lexington Municipal Center, 111 Maiden Lane, Lexington, S.C.

Activities at the Carolina Clash include live musical performances at 12:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday by Black Bottom Biscuits, and Cherry Dillinger.
EVANS, Ga. – Spurred by an auspicious beginning Friday in which he caught a 6-pound, 7-ounce bass on his third cast, Edwin Evers of Talala, Okla., ”grinded it out” and built a 2-pound lead at the Pride of Georgia presented by Evan Williams Bourbon on Clarks Hill Lake. Evers, with a two-day total of 33 pounds, 14 ounces, held off fellow Oklahoman Kenyon Hill, who had a two-day total of 31 pounds, 14 ounces.

With a victory, Evers would take home the $100,000 top prize and improve considerably on his 33rd-place standing in the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year chase. Clarks Hill hasn’t been a favorite for Evers in the past — the Elite Series has visited the spacious reservoir for three consecutive years — but the 33-year-old switched it up this week, targeting shallow water.

“I’m covering a ton of water and I must have fished a zillion different spots,” said Evers, whose 6-7 on the third cast was good for Purolator Big Bass Honors and a $1,000 premium. ”I’m not sure I deserved that big fish but it was one of those days where a lot went right.”

Although Evers has a number of areas, he is visiting them all repeatedly throughout the day. In the past, he concentrated on 30 to 40 feet of water without much success, and while he didn’t want to divulge the exact depth on which he was focusing he did say it was quite shallow.

Leapfrogging from 12th place, Evers put himself in prime position to make the cut for the final day and compete for his fifth BASS win. He was excited about the forecast for Saturday, which calls for clouds, wind and rain, because his pattern could be more successful with those conditions.

Hill is one of few anglers demonstrating consistency on Clarks Hill. He followed up a 17-pound limit with more than 14 pounds Friday and continues to adapt to the tough conditions.

He is targeting fish in ultra-shallow water - nothing more than 2 feet of depth - and has identified a couple of locations in which the fish are holding. He believes they are in a pre-spawn staging pattern.

“I changed baits up and decided to emphasize techniques that I knew would entice quality and not numbers of fish,” said Hill, 43.

Hill used a variety of baits, including a pencil popper, which helped nab his biggest fish of the day, a 5-15 brute.

Despite faltering Friday and only catching 9 pounds, 12 ounces, Day 1 leader Denny Brauer built enough of a cushion Thursday to remain in contention. He returned to the same areas Friday and used the same lures, primarily a Strike King football jig, but couldn’t entice the bigger bass.

Still battling an illness, he had caught just two fish after four hours of competition but salvaged the day by rounding out a limit on a new spot. He too was excited about a possible weather change from the bluebird conditions.

“I guess it can’t get much worse for me,” said Brauer, the 1987 Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year. “I really struggled today but I have a game plan for tomorrow and I plan to run all fresh water.”

Finishing fourth was Greg Gutierrez of Red Bluff, Calif., with 31 pounds, 2 ounces, and fifth was 2008 Bassmaster Classic champion Alton Jones of Waco, Texas, with 30 pounds, 5 ounces.

Defending Clarks Hill champion Mike McClelland of Bella Vista, Ark., was 17th. Other notable Elite pros who finished within the top-50 cut line were 2007 Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year Skeet Reese (13th), Japan’s Morizo Shimizu (29th) and Texan James Niggemeyer (41st).

In the co-angler division, amateurs are battling for a top prize of $25,000. Alabama’s Dave Elder leads with 20 pounds, 2 ounces, while Preston Frazell of Kansas (19-11) and California’s Tom Frink (19-6) trail. Frink is searching for his third BASS win on the co-angler side.

Activities at the Pride of Georgia include a live musical performance at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday by Cherry Dillinger, a Berkley Beginner fishing class at 2 p.m. and a “Boat Performance with Skeeter” class daily at 2:15 p.m. On Saturday, fans can talk to the Elite pros during “Ask the Experts” at Bassmaster University presented by Comcast Cable, set for 2:30 p.m.
