Hot Summer time Day Dreams.
Here it is August 3rd. and it is in the 90’s and all I can think about is whitetail hunting, my wife says I’m crazy. It helps writing about deer hunting but I still wish I was in the deer woods.
I already have my Shotgun tag for State land in November and I will be mailing out for my Muzzleloader tag on September 1st. which is also State land, I was unable to acquire any private land yet.
I believe I am all set for my trip to Maine the week after Thanksgiving. I am going there for a 5 day Guided Deer hunt, hope I tag one but if I do not then at least I can say I went and I’m sure I will have a good time no matter what. That is to me one of the most important things about deer hunting and that is just being out there and enjoying what nature has to offer. Being in the deer woods is where I feel the most at peace, it has a way of relaxing a person when the day to day crap tends to pile up on you.
Yesterday I worked a 12 1/2 hour shift at work with no air conditioning and let me tell you, today I am exhausted. I don’t take the heat like I used to, I guess my age is creeping up on me.
Almost every night on my way home from work I usually see a few deer either standing on the side of the road or I see them in the process of crossing the road. I have been seeing them a lot when I take my older son to work. That particular area has a high concentration of deer so it is possible to get private land there if I ask the right people.
I am like a kid waiting for Christmas when it come to deer hunting season. By the end of this month I will be putting a trail camera out, probably near my favorite swamp to see what is active. I have a spot in mind that has worked for me in the past, we’ll see.
Going back to the deer I see on my way home from work, the other night I was passing a spot where I had one run into my truck last year which costed my insurance company over $2200.00 and would you believe what I saw. The exact same spot there was standing the most beautiful velvet covered 2 1/2 year old 8 point. and it looked to have a small spike with him. That was very nice to see and I am glad he decided to stay on the side of the road.
I still need to figure out how to use the GPS I bought for my trip to Maine. I guess I still have some time. The trip is a guided hunt but the Outfitter says it is a good idea to have one just in case. Well enough babbling, I just thought I would share some summer time day dreams.
