Counting down to Muzzleloader Season - Tails & Trails - Whitetail Deer & Turkey Hunting

Counting down to Muzzleloader Season

Well here I am counting down again. Shotgun season ended early for me but, I am not complaining. So here I sit waiting for Connecticut’s State Land Muzzleloader to open which is December 5th to December 18th. to be a little more Technical it actually is this far away,

1 week, 4 days, 22 hours and 15 minutes

My gear is all set and ready, still left out from shotgun season with the exception of many a few more pieces of clothing. I figure the temperatures will be slightly lower by then which is a good thing. The gun has been sighted in and is ready to go and the hanging pole has been emptied and is waiting.

Now if I can get the doctor to not interrupt to much I should have time to hopefully fill a tag. It is all good though because as long as I can get out there and at least see some than it’s good and like I always say “If I fill a tag than that is just a bonus”

I haven’t had to many deer sightings but, I understand being gun season and all that. Once it quiets down they will start to venture out in the open, I just hope it is not in front of any automobiles. I know the last time I checked my deer cam it had 9 pictures on it and I had only put it out 10 days before so I will be checking that as soon as I go out.

I don’t own a muzzleloader(maybe someday), but I am looking forward to late bow season. That starts Dec 1st and will have me venturing out again to hunt some whitetails.

I have nothing against gun season, but I like the slow down after and the deer returning to somewhat normal patterns!

Arthur, I here what you are saying for sure. When I did Bowhunt it was nice because the deer were relaxed and basically unawares. What I liked about it was that the deer had to be close, up close and personal is how I looked at it. It is easy to shoot something 100 or even 200 yards away but when they are only 20 yards away it tends to make things different. Even now I never shoot more than 50 yards with any of my guns. I like them to be close before I shoot, habits of a bowhunter I guess.
