LENOX —

The state’s annual drawing for permits to hunt antlerless white-tailed deer will be held at the Lenox Sportsmen’s Club tomorrow at 5 p.m.

The Division of Fisheries and Wireless will award 41,400 permits allowing hunters to shoot female and young male deer with antlers shorter than three inches.

The permit program is part of the state’s effort to manage an estimated 90,000 white-tailed deer that live in Massachusetts.

The deer hunting season begins Oct. 13 and ends Nov. 22 for archers, while the shotgun season runs from Dec. 1 through Dec. 13, except on Cape Cod where it ends on Dec. 6.

Hunting is prohibited on Sunday.

Licensed hunters are allowed to take two antlered deer per year, and can only shoot antlerless deer if they receive one of the special permits being handed out tomorrow.

Last year, hunters shot 11,723 deer during the archery, shotgun and primitive firearms seasons and a special hunt held at the Department of Conservation and Recreation’s Quabbin Reservoir Reservation, according to the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife.
