Bore Sighting can be Dangerous as well as Helpful
I know some of us are beginning to think that we should get are rifles to the range to make sure they are sighted in. Well I saw this and felt it was a good idea to mention that while bore sighting devices come in handy they can also be very dangerous. This hundred dollar bore sighter can cost you a five hundred dollar gun +/-, not from malfunctioning but because it is possible to forget it is still in the bore when you load and squeeze off a round.
This particular model cost approximately $100.00 if you buy it from say Cabela’s. I just want to remind everyone about gun safety and it is not just out in the field it is at the range as well. I know mistakes happen but, if we do our best to prevent them than nobody will get hurt and we can all enjoy our sport of shooting firearms and hunting.

Great point…I hope you didn’t shoot that gun!

Reading the article and seeing what the results turned out to be.. Very good saftey point for those that use bore sighters. I sure wouldn’t want to have been the one firing that rifle.. One sure thing there would be a need for clean under wear after putting your cheek to the stock zeroing in on the bulls eye letting your breath out easy as you gently pull the trigger. Instead of the normal results you have a barrel that looks like one on a cartoon.. People can accually see now that this is possible.. I hope no one was hurt when this happened…

Melvin, thanks for commenting. As far as I am aware noone else was injured and the shooter was very lucky and ended up with just a few scratches and a very bruised ego.
