Some memories can be mounted on a nice piece of Notty Pine - Tails & Trails - Whitetail Deer & Turkey Hunting

Some memories can be mounted on a nice piece of Notty Pine

I just finished mounting the antlers from that 7 point buck I harvested on opening day of Connecticut’s state land shotgun “A” season. My finances have been very low this year so I was not able to have a shoulder mount done but, I wanted something other than a picture for memories.

What I did was basically easy. I had some #3 pine down in the work shop so I cut out a backing and sanded it down. Then I took a wood burner that my Dad had given me and burned the date into it. Then I finished it with stain and polyurethane and steel wooled it in between coats for smoothness and shine. Hung a hanger on the back and mounted the antlers on it.

Nothing fancy but it looks nice and I’m happy with it.

Looks very cool and much cheaper than a shoulder mount. Plus you get that whole you did it yourself feeling. Pretty cool.

The wood burning is a nice touch! Actually, right around when I was born, my grandparents went through a serious woodburning phase. Everything from my high chair, cradle (both hand made),to the frames around my baby pictures had wood burning. Much cooler than the macrame phase during the year my cousin was born.

Arthur, You are right I like that I made it myself and yes it is cheaper than a shoulder mount. I’m glad you like it.

Michelle, I really like the wood burning part of it but, I still need to perfect my skills a little bit. I have done a couple so far and I think the second one came out better than the first.

Anything that helps preserve the memories of a great hunt should be a welcome addition to your home. Very nice work on that rack mount!

Jeff, thanks a lot on the comment. It is always nice to be able to say you did it yourself.
