Restoring Wetlands in Nebraska
Good deeds should not go unnoticed. A local Nebraska conservation organization, The Papio-Missouri River Natural Resource District, has won an award for its work in restoring wetlands along the Missouri River.
“I’m pleased to recognize the District for their outstanding conservation work that resulted in wetland restoration and the donation of 2,000 acres to the Service to establish Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge near Omaha, Nebraska,” said Eric Alvarez, Realty Division Chief, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Two things to note here. First, these kind of things don’t happen unless there’s strong local support. Second, read through the entire article and it becomes apparent that a good portion of the job here consisted of undoing damage the Corps of Engineers had done to the river back in the 1930’s.
