Wow…just got done reviewing a buddies site…..awesome stuff there. The site is Northwoods Adventures ….and it is truly an awesome hunter’s site. My Buddy Chris Cobbett from the old “Maine Hunting Today” days and his best bud Nate are the hosts. Now, not only do they have a topnotch…A1…A+++++++ site but they have a great show on the Sportsman”s channel. WHHHEWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!! Now that’s making the dream a reality!!!

Clearing Up the Rumors: The Truth About The “Gun Tax Bill”   Friday, May 29, 2009   In the last few weeks, NRA-ILA has received hundreds of e-mails warning us about “SB-2099,” a bill that would supposedly require you to report all your guns on your income tax return every April 15.Like many rumors, there’s just a grain of truth to this one.  Someone’s recycling an old alert, which wasn’t even very accurate when it was new.There actually was a U.S. Senate bill with that number that would have taxed handguns—nine years ago.  It was introduced by anti-gun Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), and it would have included handguns under the National Firearms Act’s tax and registration scheme.  This has nothing to do with anyone’s Form 1040, of course. Fortunately, S. 2099 disappeared without any action by the Senate, back when Bill Clinton was still in the White House.  We reported about it back then, just as we report about new anti-gun bills every week.  Now, it’s time for gun owners to drop this old distraction and focus on the real threats at hand.

I have returned………..

Wow what a crazy summer and an insane economy. Working one full time job and two semi-paying part timers. Leaves very little time for much. So this blog has been getting neglected.

Well a slight recap…….

1) Fiddlehead season was awesome…froze about 30 pounds.

2) Fishing has been alot more hit or miss than I would like. But I have trout in my freezer…it’s all Good.

3) Aroostook county has been raining daily for most of the summer. Accept the first part of August…..it’s been 80+!!!!!

4) Aroostook Flyers and Tyers has been neglected as well. As I pursue the recommercialization of fly tying into an added income. Leaving very little time…….for much.

5) Feeling My age……. right hander with elbow issues making it hard to cast the fly. Tendonitus? Carpal tunnel? Just painfull.

6) Bear baiting season Approaches!!!!! Heck it’s here!!!!!

7)  HELP THE VETS!!!!!!!!!!

8) GET BACK WHAT YOU HAVE LOST!!!!!

Is there anything cuter than baby bears? Nope.
These two youngsters were pulled from a den near Presque Isle, Maine. As part of the on going bear research conducted by the state.

The team:

The team was out on a perfect day, just trying to complete as many surveys as our often times nasty weather would allow.

Quite the closeup!!!!

Each cub gets weighed and measured to determine the overall condition. Mom gets her turn as well. But all the data is recorded and used to help make management decisions.

It is obvious that all of the staff and volunteers who do this work truly care about what they are doing. The information they get and share about our bear populations. Is critical to the continued good healthy and recovery of the population. In light of the previous hard winters and lean mass crops to be expected in the coming year. 2009 will be the off year for mass and this could be harder on the bears than previously good crop years. Information gathered in a timely manner is the only way to know what is really going on with animal populations.
