Update from the AP: Willie Neal Biathalon athlete killed in Maine

No charges in death of Maine Winter Sports Center biathlon skier

    By The Associated Press

JACKSON, Wyo.— Prosecutors in Maine say they won’t press charges against the driver who struck and killed Willie Neal of Wilson, Wyoming, as Neal roller-skied on a rural Maine road.

Aroostook County District Attorney Neale Adams says he determined that the driver didn’t commit a “gross deviation” that warranted a manslaughter charge.

Police say Neal died June 21 when he was struck from behind by a car while he and a companion were roller-skiing.

Neal won eight individual state Nordic racing titles for Jackson Hole High School. He was training at the Maine Winter Sports Center last summer with hopes of qualifying for the 2010 U.S. Junior World Championship biathlon team.

Neal’s mother, Mary Neal, says she’s disappointed that charges won’t be pressed against the driver.

Thanks AP……Terrible tragedy for all of us
