While most of the western parks are gearing down for the winter season, Death Valley is just heading into its busy season. This park that straddles the California/Nevada border in Southern Nevada is close enough to Las Vegas to be a great day trip, and if you can stay longer, all the better.

There are plenty of things to do in Death Valley, and one of the newest is the GPS Ranger tour. You can rent a hand-held GPS unit at the Furnace Creek Visitor Center, and then use it to uncover all sorts of historic and recreational locations in the park, in self-guided tours.  You can find out more at the GPS Ranger site, including a simulation of a self-guided tour.
