Here’s another western park that’s little known, but pretty accessible during the winter/spring months. John Day Fossil Beds is located in eastern Oregon, and if you or the kids are fascinated with fossils and ancient history, this park is just right for you.

When you visit, you can enjoy hiking, river rafting, fishing, and plenty of other activities. There are also lots of guided tours that will teach you about the fossils and other relics found throughout the area. There are three seperate areas of this National Monument, Sheep Rock, Painted Hills, and Clarno, so make sure you allow enough time to see them all.
