Mature Bull Elk #2 in Cataloochee Valley this photo was taken on 5th of July.  This is the same elk from yesterdays photo.  Antlers are very fast growing and this shows you how fast they grow.

North Carolina Bull Elk inside The Great Smokey Mountain National Park.  This is an experimental herd inside the park so all of them have tracking devices as well as ear tags.  The ear tags make it possible for us to be sure that we are seeing the same bull.  I was going through my photos [...]

I shot about 1500 photographs this holiday weekend and a few came out. Here is a sampling I’ll post more and some stories from my weekend in the very near future. For now enjoy the photos and I’m off to bed.

Most of the bulls have lost last year antlers and have started this years set except for one bull that has a set of spike antlers.  He should lose them in the next few weeks as his new ones begin to grow.
