Is it Honey? We Need A Honey Standard

    Is it Honey?
    by Robb Russell,

    honey

Is it honey because it has some honey in it? Been to the grocery store lately and read the labels on some of the many honey related products. Seems consumers are being mislead on what honey really is these days. You have to only look at the National Honey Board’s label confusion survey in 2005 to be convinced we are losing the uniqueness of our commodity. 42% asked believed that PURE honey contains additives and 17% believed honey contains added syrup. Real honey does not need additives in fact archeologists have dug up honey from the ancient Egyptians that is still edible and safe. Why the additives ? One word , profit!

As a beekeeper, I know exactly what honey is and not is but unfortunately big business is taking the good name of honey and calling everything honey but “honey”! Our honey market here in the United States is being threatened by Big Business. Here are just a few examples:

Nabisco (Honey Maid) HONEY MAID GRAHAMS HONEY

From their own web site , nutritional information(”FLOUR, NIACIN, REDUCED IRON, THIAMINE MONONITRATE [VITAMIN B1], RIBOFLAVIN [VITAMIN B2], FOLIC ACID), SUGAR, GRAHAM FLOUR (WHOLE GRAIN WHEAT FLOUR), SOYBEAN OIL, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED COTTONSEED OIL, HONEY, LEAVENING (BAKING SODA, CALCIUM PHOSPHATE), SALT, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, SOY LECITHIN-AN EMULSIFIER, CORNSTARCH.”) Too bad the unsuspecting consumer does not realize their is more high fructose corn syrup in it then actually honey.Even they know the name High Fructose Corn Syrup Graham Crackers would have less sales appeal on the grocery shelf.

    Quaker (Honey Graham Life)

From their own web site-”Ingredients “CORN FLOUR, SUGAR, BROWN SUGAR, RICE FLOUR, COCONUT OIL, OAT FLOUR, SALT, ROLLED OATS, WHEAT FLOUR, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, GRAHAM FLOUR, HONEY, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, VEGETABLE OIL (SOYBEAN, PALM, PALM KERNEL OIL WITH TBHQ FOR FRESHNESS), SODIUM ASCORBATE, SODIUM BICARBONATE, NIACINAMIDE*, REDUCED IRON, ZINC OXIDE, MALTED BARLEY EXTRACT, SOY LECITHIN, VITAMIN A PALMITATE, THIAMIN MONONITRATE*, BHT (A PRESERVATIVE), PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE*, RIBOFLAVIN*, FOLIC ACID*, NIACIN*.” yep there it is again more high fructose corn syrup then honey. Quaker knows the value in the name honey, they just prefer to use another sweetner more then honey.

Ralcorp Holdings (Post Honey Bunches of Oats)

Honey Bunches of Oats Honey Roasted lists two other sweeteners with a higher percentage then the name on the box “Honey”. Reading the product label on the box maybe they should be called “Post Sugar Bunches of Oats”.If you are going to use the name honey on a product try putting more honey in then the sugar and high fructose corn syrup you label on your products.

Yum! Brands (KFC) Honey wings are they really or is it they just have honey flavor and what does that really mean.
Proctor & Gamble (Pringles),-Honey Flavored Pringles don’t use the name if it lacks real pure honey anyway.

These are just a few of the culprits deceiving all of us consumers using the name “Honey” but they are not alone. When in the grocery store if it says Honey and another sweetener has a higher percentage just put it back on the shelf until they realize we expect honey , real honey in it and not just the name.

The American honey bee business and the actual beekeeper here in the US is having a hard time presenting a real product for sale due to this deception. This story starts with the Chinese Honey producers and there many ways they have been pushing their impure products into the US market. Big honey packers are part of the problem since they will buy Chinese honey laced with additives or maybe even poisons in it over buying real honey from a real beekeeper in the US. These honey packers should just drop the word “honey” altogether and substitute their products with the real name of the less expensive sweetener.

This is where Honey comes from. Not from a lab or the Chinese.

This is where Honey comes from. Not from a lab or the Chinese.

The State of Florida, will soon be the first of 21 other states that will require that products labeled with Honey actually have Honey and not other sweeteners in them. All of this because of one beekeeper, Nancy Gentry of Cross Creek Honey Farms and her initiative called “The Honey Standard” and her last 18 months lecturing across the United States.

Membership Drive For Florida Nuisance Wildlife Control Association(FLWCA)

If you are performing nuisance wildlife control services in the State Of Florida we need you to join our ranks and become a member of FLWCA. Many of you may not be aware but our very industry here in Florida is at a cross roads. Now is the time for all of us to join behind FLWCA and save our vital industry from extinction here in Florida.

    Florida Wildlife Control Association

    Florida Wildlife Control Association

Since July 2008, the Florida Wildlife Commission has no longer been responsible for our services to the Florida consumer public at large. Since then the Florida Wildlife Control Association has been working hard right along side the Florida Dept of Agriculture (DACS), Florida Pest Management Association (FPMA) and Certified Pest Control Operators (CPCO) to allow all of us the opportunity to work and provide a variety of wildlife control services to consumers across the State of Florida. The legislation to make this all happen failed to get get past the Florida House (HB1447) on May 1st, 2009 due to no other fault then simply politics.

To learn more about the present status of our industry please listen to a recent interview at http://wildlifecontrol.tv/florida-nwco-fpma.html

If you provide predator control, coyote control, feral hog control, bat control, snake control and other urban wildlife services we need to show our strength in numbers and ask DACS to work with us and get us our licensing that they require by law for us to perform these services in Florida now.

Lets face it very few pest control companies are dedicated, experienced and knowledgeable enough to protect the Florida consumer as we do!

If you have an interest in performing these services here in Florida and do not hold a certified pest control license or work for a certified pest control company in Florida you need us too.

For more information on our association our website, FLWCA.ORG or contact the FLWCA Association Secretary, Robb Russell at 386-454-7474

    From The Association Website:

The Florida Wildlife Control Association is an association to represent and promote the interests of professional wildlife control operators in the state of Florida.

    Our Mission

Our mission is to promote the professionalism of our trade by contributing expertise in the areas listed below.

    Legislation

    Safety

We will establish a safety program to help insure the health and well being of wildlife control operators, their staffs, and the industry, the residents of Florida and the environment

Darrell Scott:To Our National Leaders At A Special Session Of Congress

Note: Reginald Murray,Tulsa, Oklahoma, a member of The Wildlife Pro Network sent me this by email and found it well worthy of sharing with my fellow readers.

Guess our national leaders didn’t expect this, hmm? On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton , Colorado , was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.

They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:

“Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out f or answers.

“The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain’s heart.

“In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA – because I don’t believe that they are responsible for my daughter’s death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel’s murder I would be their strongest opponent.

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy — it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.

To Our National Leaders At A Special Session Of Congress

    -Darrell Scott

    Your laws ignore our deepest needs;
    Your words are empty air.
    You’ve stripped away our heritage,
    You’ve outlawed simple prayer.
    Now gunshots fill our classrooms,
    And precious children die.
    You seek for answers everywhere,
    And ask the question “Why?”
    You regulate restrictive laws,
    Through legislative creed.
And yet you fail to understand,
That God is what we need!

” Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation’s history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine’s tragedy occurs — politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.

“As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA — I give to you a sincere challenge. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone!

My daughter’s death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!”

Do what the media did not – - let the nation hear this man’s speech.. Please send this out to everyone you can. God Bless

Florida Sportsmen Face Forced Spay and Neuter Law

Florida Sportsmen Face Forced Spay and Neuter Law
    Immediate Action Needed

Florida sporting dog owners face a mandatory spay/neuter bill. House Bill 451 will put unnecessary hardships on sporting dog owners and permanently damage the breeding of hunting dogs. Florida sportsmen should contact their state legislators and oppose this bill.

House Bill 451 is sponsored by State Representative Scott Randolph (D-Thorton Park). It will require owners of every dog or cat in Florida to have animals sterilized at four months of age, or within 30 days of the owner receiving the animal. While there are limited exemptions in the bill, they fail to provide protections for sporting dog breeders.

“These mandates basically act as a poison pill for legitimate sporting dog breeders,” said Rob Sexton, vice president of government affairs for the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance. Sexton continued, “There are no protections in HB 451 that can give sportsmen any level of comfort that they won’t be forced to spay/neuter their accomplished hunting dogs.”

Another cause for concern with HB 451 is its potential for unintended health consequences for dogs and the public. There is a risk that individuals who do not comply with the new law will stop taking their dogs for veterinary care.

Sportsmen should also be aware that mandatory spay/neuter bills like HB 451 are on the wish list for many anti-hunting organizations, especially the largest such group, the Humane Society of the United States.

Take Action! Florida sportsmen must contact their state representatives today. Urge them to oppose this measure and ask that before any legislation is passed they ensure it includes protections for sporting dog kennels.

To find your state representative’s phone number, please use the Legislative Action Center.

    Champion of Entrepreneur Rights

    Tim Sandefur, Pacific legal Foundation

    Tim Sandefur, Pacific Legal Foundation

Timothy Sandefur, of The Pacific Legal Foundation was not a co-plaintiff in the Merryfield v. Lockyer case. He was the lawyer that both tried it and won it. He carried the sword and led the fight for not only the rights of Wildlife Controllers but the rights of every American citizen.

The Pacific Legal Foundation is a non-profit legal foundation that provides free legal representation to folks like Alan Merrifield, of Urban Wildlife Control In California.

    pacific-legal-foundation

The Pacific Legal Foundation defends private property rights and economic freedom in courts, seeking to establish important legal precedent that all entrepreneurs and property owners can use to protect themselves against government intrusiveness.

I personally took a special interest in this case since it spelled out to the State of California that there business regulations requiring wildlife control professionals to possess a “Branch 2 Structural Pest Control Operators’ License” to use non-pesticide techniques on pigeons, rats, and mice was declared unconstitutional. (Yet No license was required for treating other vertebrate pests, like bats, raccoons, or skunks.) This unreasonable licensing rule was designed simply to protect established pest control companies against fair competition by Mr. Merrifield, the judges held, and ruled that was not a legitimate goal for the government to pursue. Remarkably Mr Merryfield could not install spikes on a building to control pigeons yet legally could use the same spikes to control seagulls.

    alan-merryfield-1

    For a related story –>

This case affects all business entrepreneurs not just those in Wildlife Control .This momentous victory in the Ninth District Court of Appeals will effect law for years to come across the United States.

In This interview I asked Tim Six Questions:

1- Can you tell me in in your own words what the Merryfield vs. Lockyer case means to me as a wildlife control professional?

2- What impact will this law play in the lives of all Americans?

3- I have shared with you current law on the books with the State of Florida. Similar laws exist in other states like Texas. How are we NWCO’s in these states affected today?

4- What are the chances the Supreme Court can over turn this ruling?

5- What other case law should those in our industry use to affect law directed at us in the future?

6-Do you feel NWCOA-National Wildlife Control Operators Association should of joined Mr Merryfield as a co-plaintiff in your case?

The first nine and one half minutes is included on the video below. For the full interview 24 minutes please visit www.wildlifepro.net or our Podscasting host http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/audioPop.jsp?episodeId=183587&cmd=apop

Ammo Coding-Remember How Obama Said That He Wasn’t Going To Take Your Guns?

Remember how Obama said that he wasn’t going to take your guns?
Well, it seems that his minions and allies in the anti-gun world have no problem with taking your ammo!

The Government will then know how much you buy and what calibers. Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009 unless the ammunition is coded.

Any privately held uncoded ammunition must be destroyed by July 1, 2011 – (Including hand-loaded ammo) . You got to be kidding! Wake UP! Wake up NOW!!

They will also charge a .05 cent tax on every round so every box of ammo you buy will go up at least $2.50 or more!

If they can deprive you of ammo they do not need to take your gun!
